Hey guys, care to weigh in on what you think is the most mindblowing display of keyboard and/or guitar wizardry you've ever heard in a progressive rock group? Some of my votes go to:

Alan Holdsworth on the Tony Williams "Believe It" CD
Emerson on "Tarkus"
Fripp on "Larks Tongues In Aspic"
Tony Banks on "Selling England By The Pound"
Eddie Jobson on "UK"
Mike

I find it very impressive when an entire band is tight and in synch with each other...moreso than lightning quick solos.  Two that spring directly to mind are Gentle Giant - the little I've heard of them is insane, they must have telepathic abilities.  Free Hand is the best example IMO (entire album).  Jethro Tull had their share of ultra-complexities, but the John Glascock era is the peak IMO, especially songs from the wood....Hunting Girl; and watch Ian play that wicked acoustic guitar line AND sing at the same time on Velvet Green:

Not post metal at all, they're listed in the tech/extreme prog metal and they are quite technical. basically a fusion of metal, jazz, and classical.

I don't know about guitar and keyboard, but the drum bar for technical wizardry is set at "The Black Page" from Frank Zappa's "Live In New York".
