Haha, I just mentioned them in my post too! As far as I know Gorod used to be Gorgasm - same band, new name.
Although...maybe it's just some of the members.

It's the same band,different name.They changed their name from Gorgasm because there was already another band with that name.

It's the same band,different name.They changed their name from Gorgasm because there was already another band with that name. |
Cool, thought that was the case alright. Anyway, they're better off...the new name definitely lends more credibility to the style of music....a band called Gorgasm could easily be misconstrued as being along the lines of Disgorge or Cattle Decapititation.
Being the prog-metal expert can you recommend anything similar to Gorod?

Cool, know a few of them already...wouldn't compare Gojira really, them tending to rhythmic complexity and thick textures with no...widdle.
Nice Zeppelin playlist by the way! Remasters disc one?

Yeah...I thought that when I threw Gojira in there,they are on another level.
I am listening to the new Mothership compilation cd,with all the tunes completely remastered from top to bottom by Pagey himself.

Ah, lucky you! Looking forward to getting a hold of it and doing some comparative listening between original vinyl, the first remaster albums and these tracks.
Anyway...back to the tech metal :)

Saw them play at a pre-school couple of years ago. True story. Not a great story, but true. As a matter of fact, I snapped this shot for them.
Talk about dedication, they played a pretty wicked set for being in a pre-school under flourescent lights for just a handful of people. A+ blokes in my book.

LOL, apparently its more interesting than I thought.
They played at a place called Dermer Daycare in Fresno. That evening they had a scheduled gig north of here, it was either Merced or Modesto. The gig was cancelled. One of the bands that was supposed to open for them was from Fresno and was supposed to be playing the gig as an audition for Relapse Records. A friend of that band, who's name I don't recall, was related to the daycare owner and arranged its use on this particular Sunday. It was an unannounced deal so their may have been 35 people at most. The only reason I knew about it was because a friend of mine saw them in San Diego 3 nights previous and talked to them. He explained how I actually told him they were on tour but wasn't going to be able to drive to see them on the night they played. They then informed him of the change of venue, he of course called me and I got to see them. When I talked to Kevin Hufnagel, his exact words were, "We didn't care if 3 people showed up we just wanted to play." That's one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Especially when you hear about large venue bands bailing out on shows where fans have forked out $50+ for pretty spurious reasons.
It was a great musical experience. I have a tremendous amount of respect for their skills and attitude.

What was really funny was right behind them was a board of recognized children with the title in giant pastel letters "Sweethearts of the Week". Classic.
Don't think he was actually using a pick, just looks like it in the shot.

Awesome band,I am listening to The Comatose Quandries album and they remind me of Meshuggah a little.I am hoping to add them to the archives sometime in the future.
