LOL, apparently its more interesting than I thought.

They played at a place called Dermer Daycare in Fresno. That evening they had a scheduled gig north of here, it was either Merced or Modesto. The gig was cancelled. One of the bands that was supposed to open for them was from Fresno and was supposed to be playing the gig as an audition for Relapse Records. A friend of that band, who's name I don't recall, was related to the daycare owner and arranged its use on this particular Sunday. It was an unannounced deal so their may have been 35 people at most. The only reason I knew about it was because a friend of mine saw them in San Diego 3 nights previous and talked to them. He explained how I actually told him they were on tour but wasn't going to be able to drive to see them on the night they played. They then informed him of the change of venue, he of course called me and I got to see them. When I talked to Kevin Hufnagel, his exact words were, "We didn't care if 3 people showed up we just wanted to play." That's one of the coolest things I've ever heard. Especially when you hear about large venue bands bailing out on shows where fans have forked out $50+ for pretty spurious reasons.

It was a great musical experience. I have a tremendous amount of respect for their skills and attitude.

Ah, lucky you! Looking forward to getting a hold of it and doing some comparative listening between original vinyl, the first remaster albums and these tracks.

Anyway...back to the tech metal :)

Yeah...I thought that when I threw Gojira in there,they are on another level.

I am listening to the new Mothership compilation cd,with all the tunes completely remastered from top to bottom by Pagey himself.

Cool, thought that was the case alright. Anyway, they're better off...the new name definitely lends more credibility to the style of music....a band called Gorgasm could easily be misconstrued as being along the lines of Disgorge or Cattle Decapititation.

Being the prog-metal expert can you recommend anything similar to Gorod?

Just added a French band to Tech/Extreme that you guys might want to check out...Gorod.

Great stuff if you like good progressive death metal.

Hmm, some people here seem to have very rigid definitions of what should be labelled prog or otherwise. I would absolutely call Atheist, Cynic and Aghora prog-metal. They are far more prog than Dream Theater ever will be. Sure they have repeated riffs but....so did King Crimson, Rush and Genesis........?

Most progressive Death album is surely Sound Of Perseverance...what an album! We used to cover Flesh And The Power It Holds - definitely something you need a warm up before attempting! hehe

I agree mostly, it was solid. It wasn't the most spectacular release though, but you can't always expect the most out of a band.

how much has the change in drummer and having only one guitarist affected their sound? do they still go with the same basic approach or is it totally different?
