When will you stop doing that mate? Sure it's your opinion and you have perfect freedom to express it. I just find it kind of pointless for you to appear on many Pro-Pogressive Metal and related threads and post something like you just did. Sorry.

Well, you are the post rock specialist.

Last time I was at my semi respectable music store it in the mall, I saw some Mogwai. Are they any good?

Yeah they are.
To basically repeat what others have said, good post-metal bands are Red Sparowes, Pelican, Russian Circles, and The Pax Cecelia (which I'm listening to now)

second The Pax Cecelia...they give an Isis sort of meets Godspeed vibe with a bit more classical feel to them. Very good and also FREEBig%20smile You give them your address and they send it to you.....though I think I'm going to eventually donate to them on their site once I get a bit more cash under my belt

Post-metal is my favorite genre of metal as well (along with doom and other slow or avant-garde bands)!

I'll try to give you a full list of the bands I know of along with others closely related:

Rosetta
Manatees
Callisto
Isis
Cult Of Luna
Minsk
Mare
Kongh
The Pax Cecilia (giving their latest album for FREE. See details in their website)
Irepress
Russian Circle

Tephra
Omega Massif
Empires
Adai
Baronnes
Lorus
Bossk
Intronaut
Neurosis
Tides
Pelican
The Morningside (you can download their album for FREE here)
Khoma (the only post-metal band I know of with CLEAN vocals)
The Ocean
Keelhaul
Mouth Of The Architect
Battle Of Mice

The ones underlined are recommended for starters on the genre.

I hope that this list will help you in your adventure through the genre.Smile

BTW, I'm trying to promote those bands by adding them since many of them aren't really in the archives.Wink

I think Jesu is really the definitive post-metal band.

Why it hasn't been mentioned. I really do not know.

Edit: There is also a massive shoegaze influence in there as well.

Most people who like this "post-rock" bands pretend they're listening to 100% Prog bands, and they haven't even heard or like Prog Rock...so how could they know what's Prog about?...

If you have understood and of course enjoyed Prog Rock first, "post-rock" isn't the big deal really, it seems you're only listening to this "post-rock" stuff, I recommend you guys listen to some Prog Rock. Wink

I'd just like to say that in no way, shape or form are Kayo Dot and Maudlin of the Well Post Metal. MotW is an Avant-garde metal band and Kayo Dot are an avant garde band with metal tendancies, with the last two troacks on Dowsing Anamone... being the only ones with some Post Metal influence. IMO.

it's not rubbish, it's my oppinion as a Prog fan, a matter of fact is that "post-rock" has mostly young fans, older people don't even really pay too much attention for this stuff...wonder why. Tongue

man, Post-rock or Post-metal has never been PROG, understand that, the fact this site lists bands like Cult of Luna doesn't mean they're really Prog...

A friend of mine, who is in his late 40s, loves Kayo Dot and Godspeed. He has listened to prog and jazz since he was 15, and is now mostly into classical music, though still with a love for prog such as Gentle Giant, Tasavallan Presidentti, King Crimson etc.
I think it's a question of musical imagination...

Anyway, as I mostly like the more experimental side of prog metal (besides bands like Opeth and Enslaved), I find the new categories very useful Smile
