Try to take it in moderation.  This is a collection built up over many years.  I got my first prog LP in the mid '70's.  But yeah, at this ripe old age I still can't resist adding more.  Eagerly awaiting the new Porcupine EP and a Vasant Rai CD to arrive in the mail.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I got to the point where my CD collection took up 3 CD towers (200 CDs each), one wall unit (another 2 - 300) and a mini shelf holding about a hundred. Being that they are mostly albums that I had bought & burnt to a blank (if possible 2 albums to one 80 minute CD), I recently started buying CD wallets & filling them with one band (ex. PFM or Porcupine Tree), by genre (prog nations, RPI, RPQ etc...), or in some cases, a shared taste (G & GG - Genesis & Gentle Giant). One advantage is I don't spend as much time trying to figure out what CD to bring with me in the car. Rather than waste 10 minutes wondering if I should pick Genesis Foxtrot or Duke, it's bring em all.
So, soon I will be dumping a CD tower & reclaiming a little bit more of my living room ( to my wife's delight)LOL

P.S. Went through the collection one night to see how many "actual" albums I had - I quit after getting to approx. 1500.

That's why I love my digital music player.  When I go on vacation I take my whole collection with me.  Although I still use a randomizer I set up in Excel to pick some of the titles I'll load up my portable CD case.  Keeps everything in circulation.  I was spending way too much time in the morning figuring out what I'd take with me.

I've been thinking about getting a digital music player, but I'm the type that if I put my whole collection on it, I'd have to make 3-4 backups & even keep the CDs in case. Confused

According to RYM, I have ~350 CDs and 100 LPs, but I really have more LPs than that, many of them are just parent's old stuff I'll rarely listen to.  I moved my LPs from my bookshelf to a big box, so I can actually put my books on the bookshelf

I just counted my collection.

102 albums
if you count the Zeppelin box set as one album. Should it be counted as one? Or 9, since there are nine studio albums therein. What do you think?

That's right, you're married to Zeppelin...or however you worded it...

But those are some of my worst reviews, regardless of the rating.
