...still in Düseldorf and going back to Paris in two hours...so just a short hello, it was big fun, also I was stuck in a traffic jam and missed 'Focus' ....I met Erik, Miguel, Tony, Angelo, Dirk & friends just in time for the 'Riverside' concert, my favourite concert was the 'Pendragon' concert , they are just a fantastic live band with Nick establishnig great vibes with the public! Hats Off! I had a little chat with ProgChic and bought the 'Pendragon' tour shirt.... actually the first one in about 30 years.....I was a little disapointed by the beginning of the 'Flower Kings' set, too clinic for my taste...I left early and drove back to D'dorf... hope to see you guys next year a little longer...

When I told my collagues at my work that I have seen Focus on the Symforce Festival this weekend, they reacted with "Does Thijs Van Leer still live?" or "I didn't know that Focus still makes music?" ...
Looking at the pictures (again thanks to Angelo) I am flooded by many wonderful and fond memories of the Symforce Festival and the After Party
And what a Hammond extravaganza on the Symforce Festival: Riverside with a portable, Focus with the legendary B3 and Beardfish/Bootcut with a L100 (I was told by Mellotron M400 owner 'Herman from Holland') Edited by erik neuteboom - September 18 2007 at 05:05 |

Yeah, Here is the portuguese one replying now from Portugal, with a lot of fond memories from my passage through your country I have to thanks BoBo and the organization of the Symforce event, I will be there next year! To all P.A. members that I met in Tilburg, Erik, Angelo, Glass-House, Dirk, Antennas, Alucard and last but not least Prog-Chick who unfortunately couldn't actually see any of the acts, but apparently managed to see 5 minutes of Riverside.
Angelo thanks for all the help and for the message asking if I was ok, unfortunately as you know I couldnt make it to the after party due to the fact that I wasnt that well in the morning (due to hangover problems) oh and Angelo I need those pics!!!! Hope everyone liked the festival, and next year if at least the ones that attended appear, we have to see if more will come! Prog-chick hope Pendragon comes in November in Portugal, cause for sure Ill be there!!! Edited by LeInsomniac - September 18 2007 at 07:25 |

Massive FANKS to everyone who cheered the band along last Saturday night, we thoroughly enjoyed it!
I'm sure a lot of you think these shows are the culmination of months of planning and organisation....and they are, but there are always some uncertainties and things behind the scenes that make the night just that little bit more er....'special'... with a good dollop of 'spontaneity'. Firstly we didn't have many crew with us for this gig, so had to set up and take down our own gear.....ohhhhh the depravation! Actually I thought it was quite fun coming out to see the audience before the gig it kinda' broke the ice' , it certainly makes a change from the boring old 'rock stars' entrance in a cloud of dry ice and coming out of some futuristic pod. This was gonna be a night of a bit more attitude and the unusual. Also we didn't have our own sound engineer so, Erik Jan from 013 very kindly did it, he didn't know a single note of our music and the channels list, technical spec and stage plot that we so carefully prepared two months before the gig.....had not got to him, astonishing! So, the sound might have been a bit er.... Neanderthal to start with to say the least. Prog fans these days seem to be divided into two camps, those who wanna get involved in the energy , passion emotion of the gig, and those who want to do a sort of check list, er...."sound - 5 out of 10, lights - 8 out of 10, songs - 6 out of 10...ok, that's enough for me, right! Off to the bar for a mineral water"...guys guys guys ,what ever happened to getting blind drunk and living , drinking, eating rock and roll?? I think this might apply to some of the bands too.... But some of the highlights were Lazuli, whose CD we got after the show, we listened to it on the way back to the ferry on Sunday, it is excellent with a huge amount of energy and passion, Riverside from Poland have brought a new slant to prog which is great and they have superb songs. One of my favourite EVER pieces of music is an instrumental called Tommy by Focus, so it was a fairly monumental moment , when I walked into the Focus soundcheck and stood in this huge empty hall....just me and a sprinkling of sound engineers, light techs, and they just launched into Tommy...it was spine chilling moment that brought tears to my eyes, this was a massive tune for me when I was 16 or so, and there was Thijs Van Leer doing his operatic yodelling and THAT guitarist.. a truly phenomenal guitarist playing like he was Mother of Jan Akkermann! Thanks to Walter, Bobo and the 013 for getting a great day and night together...fantastic. Luv Nick B |

Thanks for posting Nick, good to see you on this thread I am glad Pendragon is still alive and progging, I remember vividly the times that I witnessed the Pendragon gigs in The Eighties when the band played in Holland, especially in my hometown The Hague when Pendragon performed at the Paard, just before the Kow Tow release: we had a chat and you and Clive were enjoying a typical Dutch delight after the concert, the atmosphere became more and more relaxed .. those good old days!
By the way, you are not the only one who was impressed by the Focus guitarist ! Edited by erik neuteboom - September 21 2007 at 05:32 |

Jeez, Nick, welcome here - and with an nice story as well. Thanks for going through the effort of setting up your own gear, those of us who go for the energy instead of the 'light 5 out of 10' really appreciate it.

Cheers, mate. Good to hear you made it safely back home As for the pictures: if you right click on either one, you will find a link to my photobucket account, where you can download them in fullsize 2048x1536. I'll be going through them again over the weekend and add the more out of the total set of 92. Edited by Angelo - September 21 2007 at 17:00 |
