blind guardian is such a silly name that I like it
Spock's beard I have actually seen the episode of Star trek this name comes from after I saw it I liked the name before that I saw it I didn`t like it at all Kansas .. who would ever imagine such a skilled prog band would have the name Kansas ? I expected country and western music I do think that if they had gone with their original name White Clover or Proto Kaw they would have had more of an impact for the name Kansas was kinda tarnished from the start and stacked in the country sections in many record shops .. so crazy there's lots of funny and odd names in prog many people who don`t know any better think Jethro Tull is the name of a guy not a band Edited by Yorkie X - July 23 2007 at 07:24 |

Say....found this on the Net. Of course, probably not much (if any) prog in there, but it's worth a read because of the insane names people think is cool for a band. Some of them are just...unbelievable.

I read an interview with them in Terrorizer magazine where they said "carnation" refers to the flesh of the body and "green" refers to its decay. The other interpretation doesn't fit in with the views of the Norwegian black metal scene, as far as I'm aware. Edited by A B Negative - July 23 2007 at 11:52 |

I'd say early 70's rocker's 'Hard Stuff' Very unimaginative, superb band though.

I could add many names to that list. I found one I really, really liked though: Arthur Loves Plastic. I wish I had come up with that one... |

"Gentle Giant" is a great band, but a lousy name. The first time I mentioned Gentle Giant to someone, he thought I was talking about a kid's show called Friendly Giant.
And, sorry to be scatological, but for some reason I associate it with Rectal Giant -- Three Turds. I guess it's because of the grunt in Three Friends "Mister Class and Quality". |

Ha-ha. Or if you have the LPs, try vinyl gloves. Handle it with "kid-gloves" (we are kidding around), and whatever you use... ...just don't afterwards. |

Non-prog:
Kiss Motley Crue Blue Oyster Cult Def Leppard Fountains of Wayne Toad the Wet Sprocket Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah Spiritualized Panic! At the Disco Fall Out Boy Blink-182 The 5, 6, 7, 8's Almost all bands with The in their name, viz. The Flower Kings, The Wilde Flowers, The Ugly's, The Jam, The The, The Fall... Prog: Yes The Flower Kings Gregor Samsa (I like the name, but not the band, so in this case it's the wrong name for this type of band; I expect to hear and avant band to have such a name) |

Every time I've mentioned Godspeed You! Black Emperor to my friends, I've regretted it, simply because I have to explain that they have nothing to do with the black power movement or anything like that.

Here's some lame, pretentious and cheesy progmetal bandnames. These guys should probably should start smoking something:
Adagio Canvas Solaris Beyond the Labirinth Forgotten Silence Pain of Salvation Shadow Gallery Dream Theather Symphony X Moonlight Circus Diabolical Masquerade |

Well, one of the silliest names for a prog band can be found by clicking 'A' on teh archive's main page. What made these french guys think Abacab is a good name for a prog band?
Worst ever for me is from the metal band Anal c**t though... Edited by Angelo - July 25 2007 at 18:31 |
