Topic: Worst band names Posted: July 21 2007 at 06:50 |
Time to play "What were they smoking??"
In all genres there are some pretty atrocious names that almost always make you laugh and shake you head. Sometimes, they actually stop you from wanting to listen to them, and sometimes, it's the reason you check them out. Prog has som beauts, as does death/black/grindcore.
What are the worst/funniest/wtf ones you can think of???
I always thought Porcupine Tree was a pretty awful name for a band...and Sweden's Friendship Time, Mecki Mark Men, Baby Grandmothers all had me asking that question. What were you lot smoking???
I'll give some more that aren't prog in a moment...along with the translations of the names, because therein lies the comedy.

I avoid bands that use Months, days of the week and seasons as part of their names, because they almost always turn out to be ultra mellow snoozefests. I'm not too fond of numbers as part of band names either.

My initial reaction was, "Nah, that's not right, what about..." then the best I could come up with was Novembre, Wednesday 13 and Mostly Autumn - so, "Yeah, that's sooo right"

Green Carnation makes no sense to me. I'm enjoying their music so far though. :)

Pain of Salvation is the one that always comes to mind first. But there are many others equally bad or worse.

The Green Carnation is a book from the 19 century that was loosely based on Oscar Wilde's relationship with Lord Douglas that indirectly lead to his trial of for Gross Indecency. In the novel, the Green Carnation was a symbol if identification that certain young men wore to identify themselves to each other. Whether that information is relevant in this circumstance I know not.

Maybe....but I did a search and nothing came up.
Oh dear. Did you know there's a metal band somewhere in the world called Goat's Ass Trumpet?
