I just bought All Of A Sudden, I Miss Everyone. It was a fair bit better than I expected. Also, Sigur Rós has a new LP of acoustic songs coming out later this year. It's shaping up to be a good year for post-rock!

I liked it - it was kind of interesting to hear the oriental flavor of the music. Not one of my favorites of the genre but definitely worth a listen now and then. As for the other album - Lama Rabi Rabi - I have only heard clips. I heard about them from another website and saw a recommendation here I think. |

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

I am a HUGE fan of prog and have multiple albums of such bands as Yes, Rush, ELP, King Crimson, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Liquid Tension Experiment, Dream Theater, Frank Zappa, etc. and i was looking to get into post rock so i bought ( ) by sigur ros and thought it was terrible. i consider myself pretty open minded so does anyone have any suggestions on what other post rock bands to look into?

Welcome. That was not a good choice. I also dislike that album and Sigur Ros as a whole. They're just plain boring.
Try godspeed you black emperor, Mogwai, 65daysofstatic, and Explosions in the Sky, all of whom have samples on their pages here. Also a warning, that EITS song from The Earth... is by far the hardest song on the ablum.

Sigur Ros is the ultimate Post rock band. In fact, they are a genre of it's own, a realm of it's own. () may not be the best album to start with, try Takk or Agaetis Byrjun. But if you thought () was terrible I don't think you'll like any of their music. Too bad. Try Goodspeed You! Black Emperor. Or Mogwai. |

I just discovered Mono and thought I'd pop in here and share my enthusiasm for them, aswell as recommend them to those who haven't heard them yet. I'm listening to the album You Are There at the moment, and I'm really enjoying it. Such immense beauty, truly a superb album!

I still can not understand why so many find Sigur Ros to be good, let alone the ultimate post-rock band. I can hardly stand them. Good luck listening to them though. I agree with the earlier post though - ( ) is terrible IMO. |

I liked Sigur Ros a lot, their music accent is mindblowing (though I'm generally impressed in the post-rock default accent). My depression, if existing would be different. I can't realize why "Von" is disliked so much, I love it. True, little ice accent than in the other gems, yet a very well composed and music-felt drama. I can't seem to like "Agaetis Bryjun" instead. The entire flexible dandy-music of it sounds watery and merely impressionable to me. ![]() ( ) and Takk...aren't bad at all. |

I think it is the vocals that get me. Too much whining for me. Sorry. I trend to the heavier post-rock music - maybe that's why I just don't care for Sigur Ros. As for the previous post by Prog-jester - I love the sound of Mono. Under the Pipal Tree is one of my favorites. |

Mono is superb.
One of my favorite post rock band.
Sadly, I have only listned to a bootleg of theirs on Live Music Archve.
"Yearning" and "Lost Snow" and "Moonlight" are phenomenal tracks.
Mono is the perfect baalnce of Mogwai distortion and EITS melancholy guitar lines.

I actually happen to be listening to Ágætis Byrjun right now. It's one of my favorite albums, definitely one of the best post-rock. The thing about post-rock is that none of the bands sound very much alike - they may share some characteristics, but they all go about executing their album in much different ways.
