Most of those books that I've seen tend to be inaccurate.
...and you're missing "AJFA"... Edited by Certif1ed - May 27 2007 at 03:49 |

^ my guitar teacher supplied me with transcriptions of other vital Metallica songs:
Jump in the Fire (thanks Dave Mustaine!) Seek & Destroy Am I Evil (ok, it's Diamond Head) Blitzkrieg Harvester of Sorrow One Eye of the Beholder Sad But True Nothing Else Matters Enter Sandman And I could play all of them ... with the exception of most solos which I frankly was too lazy to practice! ^sorry, haven't heard any big prog metal band name AC/DC as one of their influences ... although I'm sure that many prog metal band members listen to AC/DC occasionally.

There is a great AC/DC song called "Beating around the bush"
I think itīs time to stop beating around the bush and make a poll, Those for Metallica going in Prog Related and those for Prog Metal.
I say Prog Related. Edited by WaywardSon - May 27 2007 at 13:47 |

My friend played me some songs. Not as heavy as I expected, it sounded like classic rock to me. Black Sabbath are 1000000 times better.

That's true ... they contain glitches and errors. But I don't mind, they're rare and without the book/transcription it would take much, much longer to learn the song. Edited by MikeEnRegalia - May 27 2007 at 17:42 |

well, it depends on the era. Early METALLICA (83-88) is quite metalish, influental and proggy. I'd say Prog-Related, and only because of this era. |

So now we're just discussing where to include them?
Just like Megadeth, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, Metallica's already acknowledged in the History of Progressive Metal text. I'm all for Andu's suggestion. There's a lot of info here that could make that text better. Undoubtly most people think of Metallica as a band mainly belonging in a non-prog genre, but still related and very influential to Prog-Metal. Very much in the same way Black Sabbath is historically important to PM, and desereves a mention. |

^If we were discussing "Load", "ReLoad" and "St. Upid" (which are about as prog as "Love Beach", "Big Generator", "Under Raps", "We Can't Dance" or "Technical Travesty"), then the Wizard would be making an accurate statement.
Anything prior to those aforementioned disasters, and I would suggest that it is Metallica who do the kicking...

Yes, Sabbath are a legend with Ozzy as the Icon. Metallica, though, are the ones that stand as the standard in inventive heavy metal. Sales wise, success wise, & influence wise that have surpassed all but Led Zep in the heavy duty sweepstakes. And if "progginess" were the determining factor, well ... Sabbath were not exactly prog monsters. Whereas a listen to Master of Puppets & And Justice for All clearly exhibit many prog qualities - time / tempo changes, multi part suites (although not the 20 minute version), and "deep" lyrics. Apart from some dissonant chord changes & the occasional "jazzy" interludes, not much of Sabbath come close to prog. Now for those who think this biased, I am more of a fan of Black Sabbath than Metallica. |

The Admin team considered the addition of Metallca very carefully. In the end, we could not come to a decision we could all agree on, so the matter was referred to M@x for the final say. He has come back with a very definite no. Metallica will not therefore be added. No matter what the decision was, it was always going to be controversial. I'm sure those who were for them being added will respect the final decision, even though they disagree with it.
