Hi!
Keith from Oklahoma City here. Just joined the forum section last evening although I've been using Progarchives.com for entertainment and enlightenment for the past couple of years.
 
I'm not a musician, but have a decernative ear for prog, experimental rock, electric blues fusion and the like. Because of the lack of local radio air time of prog related artists in the Oklahoma City area, I rely on the internet to find out all I need about new music and bands that are emerging. To be honest, I was under the impression that progressive music was all but abandoned for the past several years til I found websites like Progarchives. There's and old saying here (even in this day and age)...whatever is happening on the left and right coasts (America) and Europe always is 10 years late coming to the "Bible Belt" .
 
'Tis true my brothers and sisters.
 
 I mourned when Yes acquired Trevor Rabin...cried when Steve Hackett left Genesis (but rejoiced in his solo efforts)...agonized when Nektar seemed to fade away(now they're back and just as good as before)...saddened by the deaths of Frank Zappa and Steve Marriott (I know Steve is not Prog, but loved him just the same)
 
Although I was under the impression that prog was dead, I now know it's still alive and kicking and just as grand as it was in the '70's.
 
What I listen to:
 
Yes-obviously I skip most  of the '80's material
Genesis-again, obvious when they hit the skids
Strawbs
Nektar
Todd Rundgren
Neal Morse
IQ
Triumvirat
Flower Kings
Pat Travers
The Tangent
Flaming Lips-I'm from Oklahoma City...it's a prerequisit to have the Lips as a Fave!
And many more....

Hey Keith. Glad to know there is another prog fan in OKC. As one of the few established prog rock groups in the state we could definitely use your support! Plus it is great to know there is someone in the audience who digs similar artists. Welcome!

Also, I am NOT a fan of Flaming Lips and I've lived here all my life! But I try not to let that information out because it seems to cripple my endearment factor around here.

read my review.... I'd have it bronzed on the front page of PA's as THE example of what prog is about if it were up to me hahahha.

Good to hear from ya! I won't hold your not liking The Lips against you...to each his own. I wasn't such a big fan of theirs for the longest time. My kids got me listening to them and I took my youngest to the Zoo concert last September. Their show is absolutely FABULOUS!!! I'd have to rank it in the top 5 or 10 most fun shows I've ever seen...so much going on...you can tell the guys really enjoy putting on a good show no matter how many times they've sung those songs, and that just added to the experience. No, it wasn't like seeing Gabiel's Genesis doing 'Lamb" live (saw them at the Civic center back in '73 with all of about 400 adoring fans do TLLDOB and it still is the best show I've ever seen!) but still fun all the same.

Used to cater food  to the rock stars and their roadies back in the mid 80's and saw a bunch of shows from behind the scenes back then. The nicest of them all was the boys from Aerosmith...the biggest asshole by far...Tina Turner.

Tales is so spiritual and melodic...I think that the only reason most folks don't like it much is that they think it lead to the demise of the classic Yes lineup. No doubt there was friction in the band at the time of it's recording, IT HAPPENS!
 
One of my fondest music memories is cuing up the Revealing Science of God on the turntable over and over again to learn the opening lyrics and Jon's meter in singing them. ....Dawn of light....

Well, to be perfectly honest, my knowledge of prog music is actually pretty limited. I'm not one to go searching for music. Normally it comes to me via someone's recommendation or in my dreams.

And I believe you on the live Lips performance. From what I hear it's pretty hot.

Just vidied your website and listened to your clips...you got some chops, man! Loved the vocals! No doubt you've got the Symphony X/Dream Theater influence...and that's a good thing. I might be riding my Triumph down to Dallas this weekend to visit my bro and sis...if I do I'll definitly drop by Ardmore and come see you play. Got any gigs in OKC coming up...I'll be a regular for sure.
 
By the way, just in case you're curious, The Lips have a DVD coming out of the show at the Zoo Ampitheater in late June or early July. There's a couple of clips available on Youtube. No, I'm not trying to convert you....just might give it a vid to see how awesome it was.

Wow. The Zoo gig is going to be their live DVD? I'm impressed. Yes, I will definitely check out the live DVD.

Thanks for visiting the site my friend. Actually all our summer gigs are on hold while I record the second album. So I would definitely encourage you to pick up the first one in prep for our autumn gigs! Wink If you do let me know and I can mail a T-shirt your way.

And I'll be in Dallas come August to see DT live and then Ft. Worth for Symphony X. You planning to be at either one?
