sony help: "hello...thank you for calling the sony help line. my name is xjngioann. how many i help you?"
person: "i just bought your release from sony pictures,'stranger than meeting parents on a holiday', but every time i go to watch it, my sony dvd player shuts off."
sony help: "yes...we are aware of that matter."
customer: "you are aware of it?"
sony help: "yes."
customer: "is this a normal problem?"
sony help: "it is not a problem. it is supposed to do that. it is to keep you from copying the dvd."
customer: "but how do i watch the dvd in the first place?"
sony help: "you cannot until you update your obsolete dvd player with our new firmware."
customer: "my dvd player is not obsolete. i just bought it last week when the store just got it in."
sony help: "it is still obsolete because it cannot read the new firmware."
customer: "but why wouldn't you put on the firmware on a brand new dvd player model? that is silly."
sony help: "that is something you must take up with the engineering department. their number is 616-666-0023."
customer: "then can i get the firmware?"
sony help: "no, we are currently working on it."
customer: "when will it be available?"
sony help: "sometime between next week and five years from now. can i have your name?"
customer: "so basically, you put out a product that does not play on your other products and the firmware needed to fix this problem-"
sony help: "it's not a problem. we meant to do that."
customer: "-this whatever it is will not be available until sometime between hell freezes over and the second coming of christ."
sony help: "that is the gist of it, actually."
customer: "then i'll try it on one of my other dvd players."
sony help: "not recommended. it is also designed to not play in those because it is a code that needs the firmware. without it, no dvd player can play it."
customer: "are they working fervently to have a firmware to read your products?"
sony help: "that would defeat the purpose. the object of the firmware is to keep sony products from being copied with other machines."
customer: "but it does not play on yours either!"
sony help: "you know...i'm not 100% in love with your attitude right now."
customer: "basically, the only thing i can do with this dvd right now is signal aircraft?"
sony help: "that would be a violation of our copyright policies, sir."
