Great album, though not my favorite live album of all time. Still a great listen!

Yessongs production may not the best... But my first encounter with Yes was by "Live at QPR". Now THAT's a poor sound. It made me lose at least a year for getting into Yes. Maybe that's the reason I love Yessongs, but it also stands by itself as a great live album.

Yesshows is a cracking album but not the best live album ever. I prefer Space Ritual by Hawkwind or, even better (but not prog), No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith by Motorhead.

I couldn't have put it better than that myself. "Made in Japan" is not an album, it's a legend!   As to "Yessongs", it's undoubtedly good, but I prefer ELP's "Welcome Back My Friends....".

While I's say that Yesshows is better recorded (I saw that tour too), and Yessongs does suffer from poor production (most notably when they splice takes in during tracks) , I must say that Yessong's superb package makes it one of the most endearing artefacts in prog.
In pure musical value, I'd say that GG's Playing The Fool could be the best double live, but I hold a lot of respect also for Seconds Out
Traffic's On The Road and ABB's Live At The Fillmore are also obvious choices as Made In Japan is as well. DP In Concert (70-72) is also excellent.

I've never had any real issue with the recording of Yessongs- I've heard worse from the era, for sure. ELP's 'Welcome Back...' sounds muddier than Yessongs to me, and let's not even mention KC's 'Earthbound'! 
It's definitely one of my fave live albums. Never went a bundle on anything from Yesshows apart from the Moraz tracks; IMHO, the Wakeman songs were poorly chosen, they just chose the tracks released on singles, for the most part.  |

I also like Traffic's On The Road a lot. It is much more powerful than Welcome To The Canteen or the Live at Santa Monica video, which were good live recordings nevertheless.
My favourite live album would be Yes' Keys To Ascension 1. Though it's very incomplete, even with Keys 2, it's the best live recording I've ever heard. I also like Sting's Bring On The Night a lot.

I have to admit I loved the performances on the Live at Santa
Monica video... hoping to score the 2nd remaster of John
Barleycorn while in Italy.. I can't find the one with the
live bonus tracks here in the D.C. area. I've heard the Fillmore
shows were great stuff. By chance have you heard that bootleg of
Hendrix and Traffic together that is around out there. I used to
have a copy that got nicked in college.. have yet to find one to
replace it yet.
