I was reading the thread about restricting reviews of "overreviewed" albums (CTTE, TAAB, SEBTP, etc.) to encourage people to review lesser known bands. But it occurred to me that IMO that's not the best strategy, so I propose this: activate the autoplay function in the main page's macromedia jukebox, is it possible? if it is (I believe it is with the "autoplay=true" function) how many of you agree on this?

I know for personal experience that many fans of the more known prog bands are a bit lazy to find something else (some, not all), so perhaps if one of the songs in the jukebox started playing it would "hook them" into buying of those artists... what do you think?

I like it. It might even work.
There may be a problem though - here is what I mean... The times I listen to streaming mp3's here, every time I would click a link on the page the music would stop and the new page would open. So in order to listen to a full song I would need to open 2 windows into PA, one for the music and one to surf the site.
It seems to me the autoplay function would only work while on the mage page and that people that come to the site usually don't stay on the main page that long - mind you I know nothing about this from a functionality or programming point of view, just an observation on my part.

I do most of my visiting here while at work, and wouldn't want music to start playing unexpectedly when my boss happens to walk by my office, especially when my volume happens to be up from listening to a voice mail.

Firepuck: I know what you mean.. but it would be the same as when the jukebox doesn't start.. some people read the reviews in the front page, and some might stop to listen and say "wow that's great".. then they read the band's name and look it up... I think it would be nice and would draw the attention of many

I think there's a function in the web browser that turns sounds off when you enter a site

Well I know it might be umpolite.. but an alternative: I have avant and there's an option that turns off music on pages... I don't know if Explorer has it (it should)... I was only suggesting that since this is a music site there should be music (and one would skip the music if he/she wants.. also a good alternative might be to put the first songs that begin with fade in or that go in crescendo so the visitor might not hear the music abruptly.. but it's just a suggestion just wanted to know what people thought of it

Could be an option on the front page to turn off "sounds" though...but still leaves the problem of music suddenly starting when one is at work etc.

I really hate web sites that start playing sounds when you go there. The old Rush site used to do it as well. Confused
