Hate to quote Wikipedia... but I really don't feel like finding a better source right now...
"Most Christian scholars and commentators have agreed that such an interpretation is a misunderstanding of this section of Matthew. The "Expounding of the Law" includes a series of six sayings in similar format, known as the "antitheses". In each of them Jesus quotes the provisions of the Jewish Law without criticism - indeed, the passage is prefaced by a ringing endorsement of the Law as whole. However he then calls on his followers to go further than the Law demands, in order to "Be perfect". It seems clear Jesus was not criticising the law, but calling on his followers not only to refrain from the abuses the Law condemns, but to go to the opposite extreme by exercising forgiveness and love — even when one has a just claim to vengeance." |

And thus claiming that the law was a past thing, replacing it with a new law, and a new interpretation. Leaving intact the previous notion, and keeping the people who lived within and following that law prior to his arrival within his kingdom. The old law didn't count anymore as he was there to replace the old believe and the old law with a new commitment from God to men to accept jesus's sacrifice to fulfill the prophecy and allowing people to follow into the Kingdom Of heaven.
or something like that.
jesus's Crusifixion was still the fulfillment according to the Old law, for indeed he didn't invalidated them, he re-wrote them and his death sealed the new pact, within the confines of the old-pact (old testament).

I personally don’t think killing one, already subdued person will solve anything. |

Gotta love the fractured English. Really makes you look intelligent. "We dun-did president should kill!" But yeah... what you were *trying* to say was just as ignorant. |

Just remembering that English is the second (or third) language of more than 50% of PA members. The common sense adopted by old fellows is not to take in consideration minor errors done by "foreigners". Thanks and let's keep civil the thread!

Take a telling RA.
English is not the first language of all Canadians.
Calling other memebrs unintelligent or ignorant is out of line, end of story.
Moving on...

Like Scapler, I have mixed feelings about Saddam's execution. It is good that he was taken out of power, but I feel that execution was not the right answer. I think a life term in prison would have been better. It would not cause as much outrage as killing him.

My opinion on the subject:
I think that any execution is a sad event and should not be cause for celebration. Independently of whether you support capital punishment or not, it's a fact that any punishment won't bring back those who he had killed. So, rather than celebrating his death, we should be mourning the victims. @tuxon: there is no such thing as pure black and pure white in these matters IMO. |
