The old law didn't count anymore as he was there to replace the old believe and the old law with a new commitment from God to men to accept jesus's sacrifice to fulfill the prophecy and allowing people to follow into the Kingdom Of heaven.

jesus's Crusifixion was still the fulfillment according to the Old law, for indeed he didn't invalidated them, he re-wrote them and his death sealed the new pact, within the confines of the old-pact (old testament).

And if harm is done, then thou shalt give soul for soul, eye for eye tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, blow for blow. Eye for an eye. Although, nothing you could do or take from Saddam could ever equate an eye, if you know what I mean.
