If by "different" you mean "power ballad", then yes.
They played Trail of Broken Hearts live, and Herman Li brought out a giant zippo lighter bigger than his head, indicating the fans were supposed to do the same

Of course, who wouldn't want to be the triumphant lighter of the dragonflame on such an engaging show?

Salmacis, I know you don't really like Dragonforce, I'm not really a fan either, and very few deny that their music is a tad cheesy, but this isn't qualityprogarchives.com, it's progarchives.com, and all progressive music deserves a place here, whether it's good or not. Dragonforce's music is at least a bit progressive, so there's really no reason to leave them out. Besides, if that's what the people want, why not?

but they still rule.

They're truly amazing at what they do, and very entertaining - but as you rightly say, the Prog element is zilch.

The important thing is not to stop questioning.

i liked them for a while a couple years ago, but for me the novelty just wore off really quickly and i got extremely sick of them. now i listen to a song from time to time if i need something to laugh at but that's it.

Ah, well, I suppose if that's the case they don't belong here. I'm not great at judging a band's genre, all I know is that a lot of sites have called them progressive, but if you guys really don't think they are even close enough to be in the prog-related section, then I suppose they don't belong.

I cant really comprehend what goes down in a Dragon Force tune. But for some reason it makes want to get up and finally beat that last level in Mario.

You resurrected a thread a year old just to pick at a comment I made a year ago??
And no, I still can't see them as being even remotely prog. This thread (and the various others on this band I've seen here) proves that this is not 'what the people want' in any case, IMHO. It's not even that I don't like their sound (don't like power/symphonic metal as a genre, really) I just don't feel there's anything prog about it to merit their inclusion here. But to each their own...

While i am a fan and even saw them live last year in May (a great performance too btw) , the amount of times i would have to hear Dragonforce put on the CD players at parties made me sick of hearing them and i only listen to them every once in a while.

I think we should avoid using terms like "merit" or "good enough to be considered" like "Prog" is some sort of achievement past being a sub-genre of Rock n Roll. Just look around there is a lot of badly conceived, poorly executed, derivative, uncreative lousy wastes of recording time bands on here that are "good enough to be considered" Prog. So it has nothing to do with talent, creativity or an ability to think outside the box, it is a codified style.
Dragonforce is cool but are not Prog. They are not Prog for the same reason they are Power Metal; fast rapid beat drums under soaring guitars with quick lead solos and operatic vocals all culminating in a "happy" positive tone. This is not Prog! There is no Jazz base, the Classical influence comes purely from the metal world and they claim no influence from Progressive Rock. This site has too many bands that mislead people into what Prog really is (or at least what 99% of the world outside this site know what Prog really is.)

They are not prog... they are maybe remotely related to prog-related, which means they are NOT prog. In fact: it's difficult to find prog-elements in their music.
They're incredibly fast and virtuosic, I give you that. And if you hear a couple song at a time, they're great. But it's difficult to hear an entire album all in one sitting... it gets repetitive.

If I manage to finish work early and get the bus, teenage kids often subject me to the squeakiest dance music with chipmunk vocals on their mobile phones. Dragonforce are the metal equivalent.
