I'll must add OPETH's "Damnation". Though they are probably a great heavy band, the softer album fits my tamer taste 100%.

Thank God for the Nordic people. They helped bring the mellotron back in vogue with the current prog-rock scene. And besides giving us modern prog sounding bands such as Paatos, we get to hear great retro-symphonic (a new sub-genre?) bands like Wobbler and Anglagard as well. Yes, Scandivavia certainly is number one in producing great prog today, but don't count out England, Italy, and now Poland. E and I are still producing great bands. E gives us Porcupine Tree (possibly the best prog band on Earth today?), Guapo, Oceansize, Pure Reason Revolution and more. I is still producing many great bands too. But look out for Poland. Since the emergence of Riverside, many excellent bands are also appearing from out of the woodwork.

Every Scandinavian band I've tried has amazed me: The Flower Kings, Opeth, Pain Of Salvation, Anglagard, Anekdoten... I think I'll try Par Lindh Project next. |

All excellent bands listed so far. But I do not see Isildurs Bane. Definetly a great Swedish band worth mentioning. Sinkadus is another.

...and let's not forget the Johansson Bros.-- bringing great heavy prog to us for years. Heard their 'Heavy Machinery' (Shrapnel, 1997) with Allan Holdsworth? Great mix of Swedish prog with slight metallic leanings.
