someone told me about these guys, he described them as "nerd metal", they sound pretty progressive.  Does anyone listen to them?  What is their sound like?

Only someone who can't gasp the complexity will call it nerd metal

Great symphonic power metal band(and the ONLY power metal band I like, the rest of it is far too cheesy and overblown for me). Their sound is quite progressive, I think that can be included here if crap cliched power metal bands like Rhapsody are here...

They sound like typical power metal with extra cheese.

I don't hear anything prog in their music. Maybe their operatic qualities make them somewhat progressive, but not enough to be included on this site.

They have a sound very inspired by Tolkien and Moorcock. They combine celtic music and power metal. I used to love them, when I was younger. But now that I've grown older, I've found the vocals a bit irritating. IMO they're sung in very homo-sexual way.

You've just had a heavy session of electroshock therapy, and you're more relaxed than you've been in weeks.

Shocked OKAY. Try "Nightfall In Middle Earth", based on "The Silmarillion" by Tolkien. They do alot of songs based on books from Tolkien to Frank Herbert so if this bothers you you might want to skip them. Musically they sound like a faster version of Iron Maiden crossed with Queen's vocal harmonies. Hope that helps.
Did you ever think for yourself? Just once, did you ever think? That's all I want to know>

I definitely think they should be in the archives.  I brought up the idea a long time ago but it was shot down then, too...

Oh well.  Good luck...

Great band, but you have to be careful to choose the right album for "first contact":

Imaginations from the Other Side: Very Heavy, Fast, Technical
Nightfall in Middle-Earth: Very Orchestral, Great Concept
A Night at the Opera: A good mix of the above

I tried listening to them a couple of times. Thought they were sort of Helloween on steroids - not very progressive and an annoying (sometimes even boring) vocalist.

^ I like the new album, but it's not *that* great. Those who picked A Night at the Opera as their favorite will love the new one, those who prefer Nightfall or Imaginations will probably be a little bit disappointed. But only slightly!Wink

My favorites are 'Somewhwere Far Beyond' and 'Imaginations from the Other Side'.  'Opera' I had a hard time to get into, and still do.

I really like A night at the Opera too, I think it's the most progressive of all of their releases...

I have never heard anything by BLIND GUARDIAN, but have noticed their CDs in a few shops simply because of their covers, which are what could be considered 'proggy cover art'.

Are there any sites with (legal) MP3 samples typical of their music, so I can hear what they're like?

What makes it more progressive than Nightfall in Middle-Earth?
