Magnus Ekwall of the little known (but wonderful!) Swedish Hard Rock/Stoner Rock band The Quill. A fantastic voice. You can hear him as Pride on Ayreon's The Human Equation.

Chris Cornell definitely, although i like his voice better when he was with Soundgarden. With Audioslave he is a little raspy (even tho i still love the band).

New audioslave album Revelations out Sep. 5th in US. BUY IT
Follow men's eyes as they look to the skies,

Fabrizio De Andre'

Good call, here, Fabrizio de André was a great vocalist, and even prog-related as he released his first record with wahat later became PFM, a band he joined once again some years later on stage. You really should check out Georges Brassens if you like Fabrizio, as he is his main influence.

Thanks, lucas. I know Fabrizio recorded, with his own Italian lyrics, some songs by Brassens.
Honestly, I prefer Faber's own songs - both from early period ("La canzone di Marinella", "Via del campo", "Amore che viene, amore che vai", the entire "Tutti morimmo a stento" album) and from his swan song, the album "Anima salve".
Anyway, you're right, Georges Brassens is a great singer and a great person. Many Russian bards and singers say of their admiration for him.

My other favourite non-prog singers are:
Joe Dassin
Jim Morrison
Seweryn Krajewski (ex- CZERWONE GITARY, Poland)
Augusto Daolio and Danilo Sacco(past and present I NOMADI singers)
Dieter Birr (PUHDYS, Germany)
Dio
Anna German (Poland)
Antonella Ruggiero (especially her later works)

and several Russian bards (Vladimir Vysotsky, Galina Khomchik etc.).

By the way, some songs of Vladimir Vysotsky have been translated in Italian too and released in an album called "Il volo di Volodja" in 1993... Among the musicians involved in the project Juan Carlos "Flaco" Biondini, Ellade Bandini, Lucio Fabbri (PFM), Ares Tavolazzi (Area),  Eugenio Finardi, Francesco Guccini, Angelo Branduardi, Roberto Vecchioni, Ligabue and many others... Not bad at all!

yea he really does have a fantastic voice, however i downloaded some of their music and it was pretty lame, it was like a slightly better version of nickleback or puddle of mudd

also Bruce Dickenson, David Coverdale, Michael Jackson, the guy from RATT, Russell Alan, David Gilmour

Ted Neeley from Jesus Christ superstar has a really badass voice too

Thanks, andrea. I was surprised when I saw the album "Il volo di Volodja" in Moscow, I couldn't imagine that Vysotsky is known in Italy. No need to say, I grabbed it.
It is very interesting release, delicate arrangements with mostly acoustic instruments. Singers don't try to imitate Vysotsky's singing style (what is almost impossible), but everyone sings in his personal manner. And, as far as I can tell, Italian translations were made carefully (I'm not a great Italian speaker, but I can understand that the same stories are told).
Partly this album was to me a bridge to the works of Francesco Guccini (though I knew of him due to wonderful I Nomadi album "I Nomadi interpretano Guccini") and Angelo Branduardi. Damn, I feel Guccini's poetry is excellent, but my poor Italian...Cry

Female:
Annie Lennox
Alison Krause
Amy Lee from Evanescence
Ann Wilson

Male:
Paul Rodgers
Jim Morrison
Chris Isaak
Donald Fagan

If I had to pick one of each gender, Annie Lennox and Donald Fagan. It's a hard pick, it depends on my mood.
Bring me my broadsword, and clear understanding.
