Topic: World cup Basketball Posted: September 01 2006 at 08:47 |
I know most of UK buddies here don't care about basketball (it's not a national sport), but I could not constrain myself from shouting out!
Greece - USA : 101 - 95 in the world cup semifinals!!!
an amazing result that drives as mad
we will meet Spain in the final (Spain - Argentina : 75 - 74), let the best team win!
sorry guys, but I could not hide my happiness!

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

exactly guys there was only one DREAM TEAM
this team was also good as individuals, not as a team
but it's still USA and we are still GREECE (yes, this country of just 10 million people, currently European champions, and maybe tomorrow World champions, lets see)

4th major event of basketball which the Team USA failed to win in a row.
This time they were a lot more impressive than in 2002 and 2004,
Spain' win was absolutely deserved. Even without Pau Gasol they played very effectively!

I can't understand why Greece played so poorly in the final but anyway the semi-final win against USA was amazing. They were showing it on a big screen here in the university and people were shouting and very happy. Cars driving by the university were blowing their horns.
I phoned up people in the UK after the game and told them about the basketball and they said "what basketball?"

Basketball is an American sport and the Brits only play stuff they invented themselves - football, cricket and rugby. Despite being good at inventing sports, unfortunately we Brits are not so good at playing them.

Waaaaaahhhhhhhh.... We have by far the best players in the world, and we still only came up third. Seriously, though, it's nice to see the sport of basketball gaining popularity around the world. I wish baseball were as popular in Europe and South America (besides Venezuela). Most Americans don't really start paying attention to basketball until the NBA and NCAA seasons get heated up in November or so. Still, congratulations to Spain!
