This is not meant to be a poll, but rather a discussion on your favourite singer(s) outside the realms of prog. This means preferably discussing people whose bands are not included here - though there are many borderline cases, such as all Deep Purple vocalists, whose careers cover areas quite different from prog. However, please - no Andersons, Gabriels or Hammills here, as we have the Prog Lounges to discuss people like them.

As to why I got this brilliant idea.... Earlier this evening I was listening to Pearl Jam's "Ten", which I hadn't put on for some time, and started thinking of how great a vocalist Eddie Vedder is. Besides, I recently acquired Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger", and was surprised at Chris Cornell's almighty set of pipes. Any singer of any genre outside prog will do... from extreme metal to country rock, anything goes, as long as it floats your musical boat!Wink

If you like Jim Morrison's voice, you would definitely appreciate Ian Curtis' voice.  He might be better than than Jim Morrison.  Confused

Good call, here, Fabrizio de André was a great vocalist, and even prog-related as he released his first record with wahat later became PFM, a band he joined once again some years later on stage. You really should check out Georges Brassens if you like Fabrizio, as he is his main influence.

Thanks, lucas. I know Fabrizio recorded, with his own Italian lyrics, some songs by Brassens.
Honestly, I prefer Faber's own songs - both from early period ("La canzone di Marinella", "Via del campo", "Amore che viene, amore che vai", the entire "Tutti morimmo a stento" album) and from his swan song, the album "Anima salve".
Anyway, you're right, Georges Brassens is a great singer and a great person. Many Russian bards and singers say of their admiration for him.

My other favourite non-prog singers are:
Joe Dassin
Jim Morrison
Seweryn Krajewski (ex- CZERWONE GITARY, Poland)
Augusto Daolio and Danilo Sacco(past and present I NOMADI singers)
Dieter Birr (PUHDYS, Germany)
Dio
Anna German (Poland)
Antonella Ruggiero (especially her later works)

and several Russian bards (Vladimir Vysotsky, Galina Khomchik etc.).
