There are some movies with soundtracks by prog artists moving around, and they are discussed at the forums from time to time. Has the information about these been gathered somewhere? If not, would it be a good idea to make for example a sticky thread about them or something? At least the following titles come in to my mind:
KEITH EMERSON : "Church" and something else too
PETER GABRIEL "Passion of The Christ" (prog related?)
GOBLIN : Dario Argento's movies, like "Suspiria" and "Tenebrae"
PINK FLOYD : "More", "Obscured by The Clouds"
POPOL VUH : Herzog's movies, "Body Love"
TANGERINE DREAM : "Sorcerer" and many more
VANGELIS : "Blade Runner", "Conquest of Paradise" + other obscurer films
and what else?
![]() If these movies are listed somewhere, how could people review them? Should this stuff be presented like the "prog books" section?

Well we have the soundtracks, don't we? What's the point of nominating the movie as well?

The soundtrack to "Body Love" was by Klaus Schulze and not by Popol Vuh.
Tangerine Dream: "Firestarter", "The Sorcerer", "Thief", "Wavelength", "Flashpoint", "Heartbreakers". Guru Guru not only made the soundtrack for, but also starred as leading actors in the German tv-movie "Notwehr" ("Self-Defense") from 1976. They played themselves, more or less, but were very convincing too in scenes that had little to do with themselves, but with the script of the movie. They were not called "Guru Guru" in the movie, but "Rattenfänger" ("Rat Catchers"). Edited by BaldFriede - July 11 2006 at 02:00 |

Soundtracks and the movies are different things in my opinion, and one cannot view the soundtracks as one group, as they are scattered around the discographies. ![]() Edited by Eetu Pellonpää - July 11 2006 at 02:01 |

scattered? more like placed where they belong. as major as the soundtrack branch of music can be,I do not think an extent to movies should be made. |

Yes, the soundtrack albums are in their places among the artist entries, but the information about these films are not gathered anywhere to a one place.
Reviewing the movie soundtracks doesn't tell anything about the movie itself. If you are not interested about the movies, it's OK, but I'm interested of the films too, and I don't think I'm the only one. I believe that many people don't know anything about f.ex. the movies Friederike mentioned in her post, and even I had wrong understanding about "Body Love".
I accept your opinion, but I challenge it. ![]() Edited by Eetu Pellonpää - July 11 2006 at 02:33 |

A "sticky thread" is too minimalist. A larger section has no impact. A discussion center about movies is too expansive. A discussion mainly about the soundtrack's impulse on the movie is of short substance. For we know that some soundtrack have music that can cope by themselves (as music) And there are soundtracks that attach completely to the context of the movie. But personally I see the last one as a very rare fact. Overall,I think music should be completely the subject of the archives. Even if the movies section would be just an allusion. (This debate is fun. ![]() Edited by Ricochet - July 11 2006 at 03:02 |

No, check out this: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=23534
I'm not sure about the impact, but I agree your second statement.
I'm suggesting a presentation about movies with prog rock soundtracks, not a discussion about the soundtracks.
I don't see how the movies with prog soundtracks would be out of the context of the site's subject.
I'm glad that you are amused. ![]() Edited by Eetu Pellonpää - July 11 2006 at 03:21 |

Good idea - why not allow it in the existing 'Books and misc reviews' section which seems to cover it nicely - and threads can be created only by Collabs/PRs |

I have contemplated this thing, and I thought that I could maybe create blogs from this subject? I'm sure I could write with time proper articles at least from the following subjects:
- Pink Floyd and Barbet Scroeder
- Popol Vuh and Werner Herzog
- Goblin and Dario Argento
- Vangelis and Ridley Scott
- Peter Gabriel and Maritn Scorsese
If I write the articles and the admins check them out before their release, would it be a good deal?
![]() I would welcome anybody else with information and interest to join that blog with their articles too!
