Here in Australia .. life goes on .. maybe next time we will have better luck, we are still happy we made it to where we did ... we never really treated soccer like it is a main sport (Aussie Rules , cricket, Rugby) but I have a feeling we are going to from now on !

that referee wasn't on Germany's side. There were a lot of scenes where Argentinia even would have deserved a yellow card for all the dives, but actually they got some free kicks...

I just read this new in a Dutch paper:
"In the UK it seems that baboons know that the England team does well and has reached the 1/4 finals. Because of the England football team success most visitors of the Knowsley Safari Park in Merseyside have England banners on their cars. Well, the last week many baboons steal England banners from cars and wave cheerful with these banners ... ... !"

Well......football does indeed to seem to be a "funny old game" doesn't it?? How a ref and his linesmen awarded a penalty against Australia for a non-existent foul, then missed an incident that should have resulted in a penalty for Argentina beats me. The Hand of God does work in mysterious ways! Germany, though, certainly gave a masterclass in penalty taking - i had 100 visiting German students watching the game at my College and they behaved admirably! Great kids. BTW what happened to Ukraine ? - the lights were on - but nobody seemed to be home.
On to today, and two very exciting (i hope) games to look forward to, good luck England and to everyone who wants to see Brazil in the final!!!

I know, it's a crying shame we missed the chance to see the gracious Diego offering sincere condolences to the losing German team, and merely applauding, in a controlled and, above all dignified manner, to show his appreciation of the victorious, yet modest Argentine team......"We were a little bit lucky, I have to admit" said Diego, "the German team fought well, and on another day might have beaten us. I congratulate them. Meanwhile, I shall celebrate quietly, and in private, so as not to inflame the sensitivities of the losing fans."

I'm rooting for England and France today. An all-European semifinal round would certainly be interesting.

The refereee had an excellent game.Maybe when you are all grown up you will appreciate that side of the game too. Above all the thing you need to learn is to be humble and gracious in defeat. When you thought Argentina were going to be World Champions you gloated and bragged.Pride comes before a fall.... To El Bothy: see above and all Prog-man's posts to see why there was this reaction to Argentina losing.Nobody here is anti-Argentina (though their reaction to losing has damaged them) we just dont like braggarts, our reaction is to Prog-man. Like most football fans if my own team cant be World Champions then I want the best football team to win. If the Argentina that played so well when winning 6-0 had won the Cup,and beaten England as well,I would have said "oh well,we lost to a great team"

I expect a good game, especially because England must show something and they will play more forward is my opinion. I just saw the line-up and hope that Joe Cole and Rooney will be the forward players so 4-4-2 and no 4-5-1 ! Deco is suspended but I am glad that Ronaldo will start.
For me it's difficult to choose a side: I follow the football in England since the mid-Seventies (and visited games in Manchester, Liverpool and London) but my best friend is half-Portuguese ... ...

Rooney has never scored a World Cup goal neither in qualifying nor the competition itself. Now is the time...

Hmmm,England not firing again.Portugal just waiting to wrap the game up 1-0.
England need to change the system so that Rooney gets some support.
