I have the last EFL album, and I am certainly looking forward to getting more. Also of interest to EFL and related bands is Debile Menthol, whose first album I just received a few days ago, wonderful stuff.

Thanks Brandon, that is good to know.
I think I will go for the option of getting these reissued albums rather than 43 songs (which I found in a store, but costs a little bit more than 11$ ![]() |

43 Songs is out of print but is a nice way of getting all the band's studio output all in one go. I got a used copy for $11 (!) so I can't complain. Unfortunately the liner notes are totally nonexistent.
I believe Musea has recently reissued all of EFL's studio albums. I have the reissue of Les Sillons de la Terre, which is probably the best intro to the band (though the debut Batelages is my overall favorite). It sounds like it's been remastered - sound is a bit clearer and cleaner than the version on 43 Songs. These new reissues should all be in print, as they were just pressed within the past two years or so I believe. |

Thanks for that Chris, I wasn't sure whether it is worth spending all that money on that 3 cd release - 43 songs. |

EFL (for short) were like a French version of Beefheart's Magic Band, only more focussed on jazz than blues. Sadly little of their work is in print these days - there's a 3 CD set that collects all their material together, but it messes around with the original running order and the sound quality isn't great (ReR staff actually persuaded me not to buy it). I used to have a couple of their albums, long since vanished, but if you ever come across a vinyl copy of Les Trois Fous Perdegagnent ... or Poumons Gonfles with the initials CG on the label it's mine and please PM me. Les Trois Fous... was my favourite and seems to be generally thought of as their best.
Guigou Chevenier still has some stuff available, but I've never heard any of it. You can also hear them backing Fred Frith on half of his Speechless album.

Out there music
![]() I myself was wondering whether to purchase their entire discography album by album or buy 43 Songs (3 CD) which has all their releases. |

Looks like this is another band I am going to be putting down on the toget list
![]() I was also wondering what people could tell me about the band ÉTRON FOU LELOUBLAN. From the material I have read on RIO they seem to have been one of the five bands to partake in the first RIO concert in England, hence an important contributor to the movement. There seems to little mention about them and there are few reviews on the site. I was just wondering if people thought these chaps; are worth the listen? What albums you would recommed? What their sound is like? cheers |

I have Sotos's - platypus. Having not heard any of Zaar's material I cannot compair the two.
Would high reconded their 'platypus' album. For influences; I find the most prominent being Univers Zero with touches Magma. They build up some very beautiful dark atomspheres. 'Wu' the epic upon the album is stunning, very complex and evocative showing some outstanding musicanship. Hope this helps... in short the albums is worth getting! |

I have now been able to listen to the Zaar album several times and I'm pretty impressed. The sound is midway between Magma with Didier Lockwood and King Crimson with David Cross. Seeing that these are two of my all time favourite bands, Zaar were bound to do it for me. The opening 20 minute epic is excellent, as are several of the shorter pieces, but overall the album is a bit uneven. I felt that way about Sotos' debut though, and the follow up was brilliant, so I expect great things from Zaar in the future.

LOVE these guys, great recommendation. Songs is awesome; I still need to hear their first one The Craft of Primitive Klezmer I believe. The label distributed a late-2004 live recording on dimeadozen a little while ago that's pretty hot too. Awesome band. Punk-jazz-klezmer. |

Another band worth investigating (Geck0, you might wanna listen to this one).
An Israeli band which takes Kleyzmer and some RIO and Jazz and mingles it into one.
