80s’ pop vs 90s’ pop

I think 80´s pop is a little more good.. but Manunkind can you give us names of 80´s and 90´s artisst to "compare" please

Yes, by FAR!

There are exceptions, of course, but most of the fun seemed to leave the radio in the 90s. Hardly any catchy melodies, and all that negativity, pain and hate. Grunge, Nirvana, rap, et al, left me cold, and switching the dial.

Weezer were good fun, though.

Memowakeman - I suppose mentioning Depeche Mode and The Cure would be the easy way out? OK, then, I don't think the 90s gave us anything as cool as George Michael's "Freedom". I absolutely love that song. There's a lot more, but funnily enough I don't really know the names of these 80s' pop stars who provide that bit of relief whenever I have to listen to a commercial radio station. The presenters don't even mention their names anymore.

I'm waiting for someone here to out themselves as a Michael Jackson fan, I know it kinda hurts to own up to being one nowadays, but I keep hearing from people how his music holds its own... I didn't really like it in the 80s and I don't like it now, but the guy definitely had some musical talent. 

There's some good stuff in the 90s as well, like that "Sleeping Satellite" song by Tasmin Archer (it is 90s, isn't it?). Certain songs by Seal, Robbie Williams' "Angels", a now defunct band called All Saints, Madonna's "Ray of Light"... all very pleasant. Maybe one could even qualify Massive Attack as pop, awesome band.

i actually prefer 90s.  i just find most 80s music almost unlistenable.  just an opinion though 

 I actually like some 80s pop -- the Psychedelic Furs, Smiths, Cure, U2 etc etc, but on the whole most of it sucked as the music seemed to be an afterthought to the video after the MTV explosion. Oh and who could forget the Genesis and Peter Gabriel superhits of the 80s?? Better than alot of the crap going around at the time.

80s "pop" (is New Wave considered pop?), esp. Alphaville and Cyndi Lauper 

80s wins easily for me ... offhand OMD, Ultravox, The Cure, Dire Straits, Queen, U2, Eurythmics, Nik Kershaw, Men At Work, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and yes even Marillion and Genesis were all regulars in the UK Top 10 ...

Although I really hated the Stock Aitken Waterman and some trite stuff like Debbie Gibson ... most of it is quite acceptable for me ... and yes, I quite liked and still quite like MJ's three big albums ...

the 90s pop scene generally didn't produce anyway near as much memorable music, IMO
