EMERSON LAKE & PALMER (ELP) - Brain Salad Surgery (1973)
Review (Permanent link) by Carlo Grezzi @ 10:07:47 AM EST, 9/18/2005
5 stars  —   It's a perfect album: The Barabarian is very good and the harmony of this is very complicated. Take a Pebble is a very very nice song, it's poetic. Knife-Edge has a very good harmony, i like this The three fates is a keyboards suite very nice. Emerson is the best at the Keyboards Tank is a very nice percussion track. Palmer is fantastic! And Lucky Man is a ballade very nice. Talk of a man very rich wich dead in war and the bills not save he.

(I'm Italian. I speak a very bad English!)

KING CRIMSON - Red (1974)
Review (Permanent link) by sharier @ 9:37:24 AM EST, 9/18/2005
3 stars  —   Although I am an admirer of Fripp's commitment for fine rock works, Red is not the best specimen of KC works. May be the recording I had was poor (I recorded it from a noisy LP from a music store in Dhaka, Bangladesh-- if you know what i mean). the mid-tone of Fripp's guitar sounded too noisy, overshadowing the structural works of the songs. Fallen Angel is instantly likeable. However it has the signatures of masterly works. Someday I would like to have the original CD of this album to change my rating of this album.

This guy admittedly gave the album a lower score because his pirated copy had bad sound quality. Not exactly a good reviewing strategy, if you ask me.

Looks like one of my buddies got to the Yes one and review 47036 before I did!

Yes, I noticed Carlos' boo-boo Rico, I think he must have clicked on the wrong album the first time. I've deleted the BSS review, and invited him to submit one for that album.

Interesting footnote to the Angra review above. The reviewer e-mailed me back, still convinced they had reviewed the right EP. They provided a link to the Autumn Store website. AS are a New Zealand band, but Angra are Brazilian. There's no track called "Knife" on the Angra EP either. Am I missing something?Confused

Agreed, but there are many even more dubious strategies! Good to see a member from Bangladesh submitting reviews though!

WATERS, ROGER The Wall Live in Berlin progressive rock album and reviews WATERS, ROGER - The Wall Live in Berlin (1990)
Review (Permanent link) by Palm Palmer @ 6:29:07 PM EST, 9/19/2005
1 stars  —
O.K. this album's problem it's not the scenery, drawings, and music .... it's the guests that Roger hired. In "in the flesh" comes a limo the door opens out they come ...... "¿¿¿¡¡¡¡THE SORPIONS????!!!!!"(uuuuuaaaaahhhhh?).In "The thin ice " the part that originally sings Gilmour is sung by "UTE LEMPER"?( a prostitute!!)(i say that she is because she sings and dances in cabarettes)(uuuuuaaaaahhhhh?).Another brick in the wall pt.1 it's o.k., but it has this strange sax solo(uuuaaahhh?).Ha.d.of our li. has this strange chorus like indian tribes' songs.Of Another brick in the wallpt.2 i can't talk,...it sigs it ¡¡¡¡¡¿¿¿Cindy Lauper!!!!?.Mother it's alright, but....SINEAD O'CONNOR singing ..."they try to break my BALLS"?....(uuuaaahhh?).The last in disk 1 that i can talk it's good-bye blue sky that is sung by ¿¿¿¡¡¡JONI MITCHELL?!!!!!(uuuuaaaahhhh?).And 'till good bye cruel world i don't have any problem. In"hey you" sings " Pual Carrack???"(uuuaaahhh?).I n is there any body out there? i don't have problems, in "vera" no and neither in "bring the boys back home", but "Comfortably numb" starts well, but the part that Gilmour sings it's sung by VAN MORRISON??!!! (uuuaaahhh?).The thing that i don't understand it's,................... why they SKIPPED "The show must go on"? In the flesh! it's the best in the show.Run like hell it's good, Waiting for the worms it's too much military band played and the trial it's too much acted and Roger sings only a tiny bit of the song. Why ... THE TIDE IS TURNNING after live aid??....and not outside the wall? this album sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw that one BJ. It is rather oddly composed, but as a review it seems fine to me. I'll probably edit out the "prostitute" comment though (seems a bit slanderous!Embarrassed) .

Any other comments on the review?

By the way, I think the general standard of the reviews being submitted recently has been fantastic. Has anyone else noticed an improvement?

EASY!!!!! WE GOT ANOTHER OCTAVARIUM REVIEW!!!

DREAM THEATER Octavarium progressive rock album and reviews Progressive Metal
(Studio Album, 2005)

DREAM THEATER "Octavarium"
Review (Permanent link) by EMP @ 5:46:45 PM EST, 9/21/2005

5 stars   Since dream theater is my favorite band I automatically give this album five stars, but in other words I think this actually is a great album, so what if they have songs that are "pop", if your a true prog fan then you will respect dream theater and what they have done to prog, which is keeping it alive.

I highlighted the most significant part of this "review".

Argh, you beat me to it!

As far as that Roger Waters The Wall Live review goes...well, it may or may not be a legitimate, legal review, but it is undoubtedly one of the most moronic reviews I've ever read. I mean, it seems the main problem he had with the album was that it wasn't Pink Floyd performing it; well duh, why did he watch it in the first place then?

DT CLEANUP TODAY!!!!!

Today's Clean Up:

Images and Words-

DREAM THEATER Images And Words
Review (Permanent link) by Scott Adams @ 10:27:38 PM EST, 12/31/2003

4 stars  —  A brilliant, perfect fusion. Heavy Metal, Pomp and Prog Rock in (almost) equal parts combing to great effect. A great night time record, full of evocative musicianship, lyrics- the full package. One of my top 20 albums of all time.

DREAM THEATER Images And Words
Review (Permanent link) by andrea salvador @ 1:55:20 PM EST, 7/1/2004

1 stars  —  For me: cold album... Cold song... cold band (in this album)... For metal this is a masterpiece (masterpiece?) But for me this is a normal album! This is a soporific album!!! This is a speculative album (in progressive rock form)!!! But I consider this album one of plus false album of this kind of music!!! This is great big band but Images And Words has a poor sensation album in my head!!! Delusion, immense big delusion

DREAM THEATER Images And Words
Review (Permanent link) by Yosia Charisma @ 8:24:39 AM EST, 11/8/2004

5 stars  —  When i was listening for the first time, I got confused.. Honestly I don't understand their music concept.. But I kept listening and now I love it very much! It's really different with their other albums. Images and words really show the "original" concept of Dream Theater! The arrangement of the songs are perfect.. It's really rare to find one.. They are still the greatest band in the world.. Salute..

DREAM THEATER Images And Words
Review (Permanent link) by George Papadopoulos @ 5:21:01 AM EST, 1/23/2005

5 stars  —  This is the album that DEFINED progressive metal in the 90's. Nothing was the same since then. Metal fans discovered (sic) that there is not olny 4/4 in music. Hundrends of "wannabe DT" bands emerged because of this album. Personally, I like this album more than their next, much heavier, ones. A MUST!

DREAM THEATER Images And Words
Review (Permanent link) by Marcos Vrljicak @ 8:27:06 PM EST, 7/29/2005

4 stars  —  I would put 4.90 stars if it was possible, but i don't think it deserves 5 stars. This album started my journey in the Prog Metal. This Dream Theater's album particulary is a curious way of transporting pure prog rock in pure prog metal. Excelent album! It's almost essensial, though there are "more essensial" ones.

Maximum Dream Theater's expresion.

I would like to say much more things but my english is not perfect.

DREAM THEATER Images And Words
Review (Permanent link) by Rich @ 6:05:01 PM EST, 8/15/2005

2 stars  —  I've held back on giving this a review as I am aware of the general warmth towards this so called 'masterpeice'.However it does not one tiny thing for me I'm afraid.Just one long yawn from beginning to end.Nothing to my ears other than just a bog standard set of heavy metal tracks.Six Degrees and Octavarium are way better IMO.Thanfully DT were to evolve into something a great deal more interesting.

And just look at all the 5 star Ratings without reviews! (2 from Velvetclown)
