Topic: Coheed and Cambria Posted: August 21 2005 at 12:31 |
They should be here, they seem pretty proggy to me.
I know they were apparently added for a brief amount of time but then taken away, why is this?
Their first album may not be all too prog-like, but In Keeping Secrets
Of Silent Earth: 3 has a lot of progressive elements and characterists,
and from what I've heard of their next album, they've gone more prog
again.
I understand why people may not like them being here, they are
certainly influenced also by the modern mainstreem emo movement, but
that doesn't stop them from being a prog band.
Is there any chance of them getting added here again? If bands like
Queen, Meshuggah, Dredg, Steve Vai and Dillinger Escape Plan are prog, then why
aren't Coheed and Cambria?

All I know is that Coheed and Cambria's new album has the most Prog title EVER:
Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through The Eyes of Madness

Coheed & Cambria isn't prog because they're Indie/Alternative
Metal/Punk. The only thing about Coheed & Cambria that would
make someone believe they're prog is that their albums follow a story
and concept. This is only so because Claudio is a comic writer
and artist.

They also have some complex songwriting, a few signature changes, and sophisticated voacl lines. Add to that a very ambitioned approach which doesn't make much sense commercially speaking, and the obvious similarities to TMV ... they're prog.

I'm starting to think that Retrovertigo has never actually listened to their full albums, and this makes me sad.
And so WHAT if he's a comic artist/writer? We've had prog
vocalists who are poets, novelists, and other things that make them
write conceptually, and like Claudio, they also made their music
proggy...
