Wake up Mark!

Apology?

Ok, I'll give you that. I'm not incapable of demonstrating humility, which is more than I can say about you, James and Maani. I didn't look at every post he wrote. And I'll agree, I think his thinking is out of line. But what I mean't was, I think you were putting me in that same racist category with him. And believe me pal, there isn't a racist bone in me.

I was referring to our initial bout last night. Hell, I can't even remember everything I posted last night so much as what I posted last week. Getting old, I guess.

...what? Where'd that come from? When haven't I acknowledged a valid point someone else made? When have I gone after the person rather than the statement? Do you actually think you know a damn thing about me from a few posts on a forum? To say nothing of maani, who must exercise incredible humility every day, dealing with all of us...

Whatever image you got there Tony, it won't come up here for some reason. I don't know what's going on.

Enjoy yourself Tony.

I know we agreed not to debate politics anymore, but I just want to go on record as saying that I do not believe that America is always a force for good.  I just don't believe it's the Great Satan either.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Cool site way to brief in his review of each event and sometimes very slanted to his agenda.  For instance he lists several quotes by Abraham Lincoln in the Civil War paragraph from 1862 as to Lincolns approach to preserving the Union.  He then in a matter of fact attitude states that Anti-Slavery became an issue of the war eventually like it was some underground swell of popular opinion.  What he doesn't state is after the battle of Antietam which he refers to in his write up, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation that took effect Jan, 1 1863 that outlawed all slavery in states that were in rebellion which in effect turned the war into one of conquest and as each state was occupied the proclamation came into effect and freed the slaves of those states.

He uses several statements in other write ups that the reader is supposed to believe with out any accompanying facts.

Well Maani, it looks like your wish is coming true. Your friends at the NY ACLU are going to take the subway search issue to court. And as usual, they're going to cheat the system once again and take it to an appointed judge and NOT the elected officials on the State legislature or the City counsel. Why? Simple, liberal activist groups like them know that their agenda can't be passed through votes and debates, so they take the old judicial shortcut and take it to a judge that will agree with them. And you complain about our democracy threatened by the right? The stench of hypocrisy once again prevails! I think every lawyer with the ACLU should be put in jail for this kind of sedition!

^ you mean they're not leaving it up to the very people who backed the searches in the first place? What are they thinking?

^ oh, come on. You're not promoting democracy in your post, you're just lashing out at some strange, biased, cartoon image of the "Left" that you've cobbled together (as if the "Right" is never guilty of manipulating the system for their own ends...).

Forget about the "Us and Them" mentality for a while. America is not composed of Liberals and Conservatives, despite the best efforts of the political and media establishment to frame everything in those terms. As far as the ACLU goes, you can see that my first post on this topic was critical of them; however, why would you assume that they have an agenda beyond ensuring the closest possible scrutiny of civil rights  in this country?
