I've been here for a little bit, but I never did introduce myself, and I am still in the newbie level.

So hello, I am Nick. I'm 17, and I've listened to progressive rock plenty when I began listening to music, but never really was a "progger". I just liked bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin, etc. More of a classic rocker. Now I'm into all sorts of stuff - avant-garde, jazz, math rock, folk, etc.

I even really got into Yes and King Crimson without even thinking about progressive rock. Faust's debut album became my favorite (and still totally is!) three years ago. It wasn't until a friend of mine showed me Khan's "Space Shanty" and I thought, "I could not possibly imagine getting into this." I thought it was pretty bland, but that one freaking groovy bit in "Mixed Up Man of the Mountains" brought me back until I liked the rest and it became a recent favorite. Then I wanted to check out more stuff like that - more obscure 60s and 70s bands, and that's when I came across this site and discovered the Canterbury scene.

Along with Faust, my favorite band is Deerhoof, a band that is surprisingly on PA. Look them up, they mostly have 1.13 or so ratings. I love their creatively absurd sounds. It's usually the vocalist that turns people away from them, which I understand, knowing that I'm pretty tolerant of lo-fi/ poor technique, but I'll suggest one song of theirs. See what happens.
