doesn't In Extremis from Thinking Plague have 5 stars average, and rightfully so it's a masterpiece the more you listen to it.

Album of the week:
Being
7/30/05 Remedy Lane
7/24/05 Pawn Hearts

It is highly unlikely you will ever find an album that has been given 5 stars by everyone.

Actually, it's quite likely if the album has only been rated a couple of times. Those albums are obscure masterpieces, no one knows the existance of.

It's a damn shame that so many people hurl out 5 start ratings as if it was candy on halloween. It seems, if an albums has 1 mediocre song on it, it's automatically worthy of 5 stars. Only absolute masterpieces, where every single measure on the album is top notch, should a 5 star rating be considered.

Also, the 1-5 star rating system is a system that sucks something terrible. What if you want to give an album the best possibly rating, but the album has a minor flaw(s), you'd like to give it 9/10 or 95/100. Impossible on the 5 star system.

Example of correct rating on the sh*tscale:

Genesis - Nursery Cryme = 2/5

70% mediocre gibberish babble fill with no point. 'The Musical Box' puts it at 1.5 stars, which is then rounded up to 2.

King Crimson - Lark's Tongues in Aspic = 2/5

The album that is cool to like. In nerdy music snob circles you will gain lots of snob credits just by owning the album. Bonus points for humming the violin part from the title track. While the entire album is not entirely sewage, it's definitely a main ingredient. 'Easy Money' and 'The Talking Drum' prevents the album from having negative stars, black holes if you may.

Pink Floyd - Division Bell = 1/5

U2 looks down on this album.

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound = 4/5

Genesis's best album. 2 awkward pop tunes, "The Battle Of Epping Forest" a.k.a.: "The worlds longest filler track", plus the unnecessary but subtle ending filler, puts it below top rating. The real rating should be about 65.731445/100, which is then rounded up to 70/100 ~ 3.5/5, which is rounded up to 4/5.

Oh man, great post. The only thing you did is making fun of albums you don't like and of the people that enjoy those albums. Couldn't have chosen worse examples to prove your point.

That should be handled with care though. No album should enter such a list until it has a certain number of ratings, else a single 5 star reviewer will push it to the top.
