Blues rock, not prog IMO. They have a 1% twinge of psych, but far less than any of the proto-psych bands we have here.

I wonder if Joe Keithley knows who he is? Now it's 2011 and I wonder what Paul is up to these days and why he didn't get an interview from Nardwuar the Human Serviette.

Years ago, around 1990, i met a guy in a record shop in Ottawa, Canada, who had recently spent a long bus ride going out to British Columbia sitting beside Paul Rudolph. He showed me a business card from Rudolph, who at the time was involved in selling motorcycles out in BC.
P.S. l like the Pink Fairies, and have a few recordings Edited by presdoug - February 27 2011 at 20:58 |

I don't consider them prog but I'm surprised they haven't been listed here, what with their strong ties to Hawkwind. But yeah, Never Never Land is one of the great forgotten gems of the early 70s, fantastic album.

I was quite young when Neverneverland came out and I've now become reacquainted with this music. I was 7 and I'm positive this was one of the first 8-tracks I've heard.
[correction: being born in 1962 I would have been 9 when this came out] Thought I'd throw in this link.

No, not even prog-related - as a great fan, saw them twice around period of Neverneverland (one incredible gig at Royal Holloway College and one stinker at Kingston Swimming Baths, and a three years later I think at Guildford. This was a period when there was clear distinction between progressive rock and heavy rock'n'roll.

Appologies if I'm repeating a topic and I really appreciate your reply.
In fact, I'm now as much of a fan of The Pinks as I am of Egg (or Stewart, Campbell & Brooks) now.

Certainly Pink Fairies plays music both for Progsters, Metallers and Punkers. But Pink Fairies are not Prog.
Prog Related? Maybe... Proto Punk? ...Yes!!!

Good stuff. Maybe prog-related at best, but don't think it's going to happen. Have a look at Certif1ed's posts in the first link in particular:

Would The Pink Fairies be Proto-Prog?
I think they are considered Proto-Metal and Proto-Punk but definately Psychedelic as well. I LOVE this!
