Kyle Wood was the mandolin player and co-lead vocalist with rock-influenced, newgrass dynamo Crucial Smith.
In the 1990s/early 2000s, Crucial Smith played premier Americana festivals like Telluride, Winfield, the IBMA, etc. Their two fine studio cd's - Crucial Smith (1997), and Morning Light (1999) - were produced byguitarist/producer Pat Flynn (of New Grass Revival fame).
THINK MIXING JON ANDERSON OF YES WITH JOHN PAUL JONES' MANDO ON "BATTLE OF EVERMORE" LED ZEP!
Kyle’s new album's format will be Americana/Indie rock and appeal to anyone who appreciates
neo-prog, alt country, indie, singer/songwriter, classic rock, and newgrass/progressive bluegrass.
With his powerful and emotive high lead vocals (think Jon Anderson's range), superb harmony singing, high-energy mandolin work,
and singer/songwriter sensibilities, look for Kyle's new mandolin collection later in 2010. It will feature his Crucial Smith bandmate, multi-instrumentalist Dave "Doc" Holladay, and exciting guest artists!
One greatly anticipated highlight of the new cd will be the reworked "Cry", Kyle's signature
song with Crucial Smith, as a dynamic Americana/country rock anthem!
Update - June, 2010: Kyle's new album is almost completely written with most songs fully arranged
and recorded. Four songs - including both "Cry" and a beautiful, rock-influenced mandolin instrumental are ready for mastering.
