Congrats on the new job ![]() Can't help you too much on the live prog in Edinburgh, I've not lived there in 10 years, so a lot of the places I frequented then are gone (and mainly listened to Alt. Rock or dance then). I go to the Fopp in Bristol, but have fond memories of the old one in Cockburn Street. |

If you aren't in fact being silly, half.com is a division of e-bay and has been around for more than a few years. You'll find a mixture of individuals selling used stuff and internet stores using it as an outlet for new and used stuff. I've purchased a lot of stuff through that site and have rarely been disappointed. I've also sold stuff there as well. |

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Worst (highest) s/h charges award goes to Eurock. The total I was charged the last time I ordered a couple discs (which will also be THE "last time") was actually higher than what was reflected in the cart on the website. Since I really wanted the CDs, I just let it go.

Cheers 3vilP3nguin. Since my last post I heard that I was successful in getting the role in Edinburgh so will be living there during the week from mid-August and will be sure to make regular trips to Fopp and seek out those bargins. I'm with you on the Play/ebay recommendations although it can be hard finding some of the lesser know bands. BTW If you are Edinburgh based I would welcome any recommendations of places that may have live prog bands (I know this is a real shot in the dark)? Thanks. |

Fopp is quality, but more for picking up stuff on the cheap, some good bargains, picked up each of the Dream Theater live DVDs there for about £6 apiece (already have them on CD) and Rush's R30 (DVD + CD) for £3. CD wise, the collected works of Simon and Garfunkel for £8. However, the selection is not that good, so anything else is Play.com or eBay. Edited by 3vilP3nguin - July 22 2009 at 14:16 |

I'll tell you; I buy a ton of Prog (it is my "vice", I would say) & I usually buy from Greg also.
But, I will tell you, recently, it is e-bay & amazon. I used to hate used cds but now, in this horrible recession, I buy used all the time (if you can find them!) Also, Laser's Edge is a good one. Kinesis is good BUT, $4.45 shipping is a bit much! |

Amazon's typically the best place for cd's especially when you can get them used. I've gotten them for as low as ninety nine cents before shipping(which is 2.90). If I can't find it on Amazon I go to the bands myspace page and buy it directly from them or from the record label.

I've been using CDUniverse a lot since CD Now got absorbed by Amazon and wiped out my wish list. Another good and now defunct site was Djangos. Edited by Slartibartfast - July 24 2009 at 21:05 |

Check some of the online stores in this links: http://www.progarchives.com/ProgRockShopping.asp Particularly the first on the list (I should update it, as I've found many more since, but don't have time). |

Here's another vote for Greg Walker at Synphonic--great selection, fast shipping, reasonable prices.

When it comes to full-on prog, Syn-phonic is the place to go. I've been ordering music from Syn-phonic since '95! http://synphonic.8m.com/

For any ProgHeads in England and Scotland it is well worth a saunter to a Fopp if you one near you. I was up in Edinburgh for job interview yesterday and managed to make a detour to Fopp off Princess Street. Found the new CDs for Mars Volta, Mastodon and Astra as well as Serj Tankian's Elect the Dead which I have been looking for.

Now, the stores are about 1/3 CDs, 1/3 DVDs, and the rest of each store has T-shirts, novelty items, small electronics, and even a few comics.

That's a shame. Wayside is my #1 supplier; I have received nothing but prompt and excellent service from them, as have many others around here. |
