How did you arrive at the conclusion that these downloads are "crappy quality"? Please, don't say "because they're mp3". ![]() |

That's a good deal. You should have him make you sandwiches or something. Maybe serenade you as you go to sleep. Even form a band with him. To the OP, I am afraid you have been misinformed. There are no rare, legal prog mp3s. Rare prog is so good that it is prohibited by international law, under the Geneva convention. Just the other day the FBI searched my computer to make sure I didn't have any Etron Fou Leloublan. Fortunately I edited all the track information so it appeared to be a Madonna album, but next time they might bring headphones. Don't be like us, man. You got your whole life ahead of you. My buddy's been in prison three times for distributing Magma records, and each time he goes he only ends up getting deeper and deeper into it. Take my advice, man, and stay away. It'll only destroy you, in the end. Alright, in all seriousness, I have to echo those who have said www.cdbaby.com Excellent place, and it's normally pretty cheap there as well, at least compared to other sites I've seen. eMusic is kicking me off their non-standard legacy plan and now I have to pay $11.99 for 30 tracks like everyone else. :( And I keep downloading albums with crappy quality!
But in exchange I'm getting Miles Davis? Edited by Henry Plainview - June 11 2009 at 22:01 |

Currently I pay 30 Cents per track at eMusic.com, and today I've downloaded for albums from Amazon.de MP3, each for less than 5 EUR. CDs cost 12-16 EUR in Germany, so these MP3s are definitely much more affordable. Doesn't mean that I spend less though - I'm simply buying more albums. ![]() BTW: I agree that for the same price the CD is the better deal, no doubt about it. But even the most pricey MP3 albums at Amazon.de MP3 are less than 10 EUR (unless it's 2CD box sets), which is still about 60-70% cheaper than the CD. |

Yeah they won't see money from it, but they won't get signed again if their album sales aren't high enough...

Hmm, I don't know why you'd ever prefer an MP3 download to buying a CD? I mean, it costs relatively the same for the CD, plus the quality is so much better. And if you want to listen to it on your iPod, you can just upload the disc into your iTunes. Not sure what the dilemma is about owning the CD, it's definitely way better.

I tend to agree - but it varies greatly from country to country. For example, Chroma Key is not available at Amazon.de MP3, which is what I have to use. eMusic.com has some regional restrictions too, but far less than Amazon from what I can tell. http://www.emusic.com/artist/Chroma-Key-MP3-Download/11619177.html ![]() |

I agree with the E-Music supporters, they have a pretty good selection and are usually the cheapest once you take their various plans into account.
I used 7digital once and wasn't actually able to download the files that I was looking for. Nonetheless, it may be an option. |

The AMAZON MP3 store is quite good - it has some incredibly hard to find stuff, Like Chroma Key (Kevin Moore) and other stuff.

^ eMusic.com is a website with an unique price model ... the files are much cheaper than at any of the major legal download stores. But why ignore the portal just because it has a more limited selection of artists? They may very well have some of the albums you're looking for.
http://progfreak.com/home/charts.xhtml?y=*any&src=emusic This is just a small selection of albums that happen to have a rating at PF and were found to be available at eMusic. Just out of curiosity: Are some of those albums on your wishlist? I've found Amazon to be excellent and reasonably priced, whereas I don't rate e-music at all in terms of choice. Is this a UK thing?
However, most decent band sites these days will have a download facility, for example Marillion's site is superb. |

You're only gonna support the record label unless the band itself has an own. Music groups won't ever see a penny from it. (I've not said you should download illegal, before someone misunderstands my sentence!)

Hi,
In general, "prog" is much more about longer cuts and music ... and if you don't buy the CD's in general you will probably have a hard time getting a lot of this stuff elsewhere ...
I just had a flashback to the 70's ... iTunes had Yes cut up in pieces and selling it for the usual cents ... now if you want your favorite music piece cut up ... be my guest!
Personally I find it an insult to the artist ... and I hope Picasso's ghost teachs you about that !!!

When I buy digital music I do prefer to have it in FLAC or any lossless format (you'll never know when you'll get a great stereo to hear your music). If you need to convert the files to MP3 you can use foobar200 (http://www.foobar2000.org/) it gets the job done and has a great cost ![]() |

which reminds me, John from Shadow Circus told me he'd help me convert Flac or OGG files from these sites.
