Thanks for that, I'll check it out, I haven't heard Break Like The Wind, just the soundtrack. Stonehenge still makes me laugh very time, and by sheer coincidence, current listening is Sabbath. I'm can't remember if they inspired that scene or if it was a bizarre coincidence, the timing of it escapes me!

I like all of the albums I know off Lydon's list considerably.  I probably made up the lyrics based on "Anarchy in the UK" and then confused them with reality.  It happens to me.

I love Spinal Tap, and not just for the movie.  Hilarious, and my favourite concert was seeing them play live.  Nigel Tufnel is a god! ;)

Nigel Tufnel: [on what he would do if he couldn't be a rock star] Well, I suppose I could, uh, work in a shop of some kind, or... or do, uh, freelance, uh, selling of some sort of, uh, product. You know...
Marty DiBergi: A salesman?
Nigel Tufnel: A salesman, like maybe in a, uh, haberdasher, or maybe like a, uh, um... a chapeau shop or something. You know, like, "Would you... what size do you wear, sir?" And then you answer me.
Marty DiBergi: Uh... seven and a quarter.
Nigel Tufnel: "I think we have that." See, something like that I could do.
Marty DiBergi: Yeah... you think you'd be happy doing something like-...
Nigel Tufnel: "No; we're all out. Do you wear black?" See, that sort of thing I think I could probably... muster up.
Marty DiBergi: Do you think you'd be happy doing that?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, I don't know - wh-wh-... what're the hours?

Hilarious!

Have you heard the album Break like the Wind? Great stuff.
They had a terrific site, which, sadly, went under some years ago, but has been archived with plenty of mp3s:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030623235943/www.spinaltap.com/mp3s.html

It includes "Back From the Dead",  which was made for web-release, as well as classics from the film soundtrack and Break like the Wind.

Interesting stuff on that Lydon list. i'm not familiar with most of it, but given the intelligence of his lyric writing, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised at the breadth of his appreciation. Not sure about those lyrics though, dude, I've never noticed them myself!
BTW love the avatar!
"So what would you do if you weren't in  a rock band?"
"I don't know, er... work in a shoe shop probably."
Spinal Tap still makes me fall off my chair laughing every time.

I believe he did, and it';s not surprising. And I would imagine that he would have enjoyed, especially, early Pink Floyd music quite a bit.  The rather ironic thing, perhaps, is that the punk ethos was supposed to be so anti-establishment, anarchic, stick it to the man (and I do think that Pink Floyd also represented the establishment -- mainstream music industry --  for him at that time) yet bands such as The Sex Pistols were commercial and marketed themselves (worked in the establishment).  Of course, image was so important to punk, and led people to say that they really didn't stand for anything.  Later on he did Public Image Limited.

Incidentally, some of my favourite lines from music is from  The Sex Pistols.  Does a lyrics search, and this is not a line I can find from Anarchy in the UK?  Haven't listened to it many years, but I thought it went like this, and I thought it was brilliant.

I am an anarchist
I don't care about politics
I just want to kick in some heads

It could be that that was my own made-up version of the song, and I've subsequently forgotten.  I remember a poli-sci class where the prof was a huge Sex Pistols fan, and I said that.

Never Mind the Bollocks has been one of my favourites albums since, well, pretty much since it was released.  Johnny Rotten famously 'dissed' Pink Floyd as it had come to represent the industry/ had mainstream commercial appeal (and punk rock was about being anti-establishment) , but he did respect and enjoy people/ bands like Captain Beefheart, Peter Hammill, Can, Third Ear Band, Henry Cow, David Bowie and others.

Here's a neat list of albums he chose back in '77.  I have to admire his taste.

Now I have an urge to listen to The Residents... I think Johnny would approve.

Good thing too!  You've got to have a healthy debate, haven't you?
Thanks for the link, that was fun! Those 80s fashions are on the way back for the girls here in the UK a bit. Only a bit, mind. Let's not go mad!

Well, hello everybody. I don't feel like a newbie, I've been lurking around for ages, but thought I'd make a little noise now.
I love this place. It's opened up a whole world of stuff I just didn't realise was out there. I've always been into a bit of prog, the obvious I guess, Floyd, Crimson, Yes, Genesis, but I didn't realise there was THIS much out there!A lot of it new, too...
Anyway, that's it, just wanted to say hello and tell you all that you all rule!
Oh yes, irony of ironies, just have a guess what I'm listening to as I type...
Yes, those cuddly Sex Pistols. You've got to have a sense of humour...
