There has been talk on at least one of the jazz fusion sites about the reissue of some - if not all - the back catalogue of MPS/BASF Records originally released on vinyl in the 70's but alas did not get much further than the German border.
Included in the first batch is George Duke's earliest solo recordings, and 3 or so albums by violinist Sugar Cane Harris. Sheer coincidence yesterday, went to Ultima Thule for the first time since Christmas, and Alan Freeman was opening the first batch of MPS CDs he's ordered in. I came away with Charlie Mariano's Helen 12 Trees which includes a great piece of session work by Jan Hammer, deliberately (according to the liner notes), avoiding guitarists. It comes in a repro miniature LP sleeve, and like many of these obscure recordings it a real pleasant surprise musically. Any other info would be appreciated. |
