HI EVERYONE, THIS IS CÉSAR MENDOZA.
Remedios Amaya is currently a Flamenco veteran (she likes to do some Latin fusion added to her flamenco music, basically acoustic). At age 23, she was already a young veteran, and became eager to experiment with flamenco-rock and flamenco-techno. In 1983,, one of her songs during this brief era, "¿Quién maneja mi barca?", was sent to Eurovison (held in Munich). The song got 0 points, together with Turkey.
Still nowadays there are heated debates among Spanish melomaniacs, some saying that this is a highly underated gem, others stating firmly that it is mere crap. Most foreign visitors praise it: even a Eurovision-fanatic poll held in Youtube placed it on place 9. Go figure! What a way to build up a reputation for posterity!... To some, this song anticipated the penchant for ethnic sounds that currently has become so Eurovision-friendly...
What do you think? Here are two Youtube videos of her Eurovision performance:

Here's the promotional videoclip with the studio version: http://www.youtube. com/watch? v=kKsepVHuooA – audio and image are not too good, really. In comparison, you can tell that the orchestral arrangement in the libve performance emphasized the Arabic elements and understated the Flamenco vibe (not necessarilly a criticism).
My personal opinion is that this is a great flamenco-rock song, worthy of being part of a Triana, Mezquita or Medina Azahara album - how do you like it (or dislike it)?
