Well, I think some peoples REAL votes are detered by the ratings of those two albums.

Or maybe I'm too much of a Yes head not to be disgusted that Yessongs is not in the top fifty, BLASPHEMY!

Meh, I don't think compilations deserve to be in the top 50, I'm sure like many people I would prefer to see the top 50 to be just studio albums.

Well, Yessongs is a LIVE ALBUM, rather than a compilation, so that complaint isn't relevant in the slightest.

I moved Dun's Eros album up 2 slots the other day, that made me feel special - then some clown moved it up 9 spots a week later, that made me feel not so special.

thanks, thats all I wanted to know (anymore than that, I'm afraid I'd get confused with the technical talk, I know very little about computers and programming etc.)

Me, I prefer to review stuff that hasn't been touched before, but occasionally I have something interesting to say about stuff that's been reviewed a gazillion times.  Usually I'll review stuff I really like.  Sometimes I'll do stuff that's not so hot.  Never waste my time with anything less than a two star.

The results that the algorithm turn up can be interesting though, particularly if you look up top albums for a given year.  I posted and reviewed Ponty's Jazz Violin Summit and lookie, it's number three for 1967 LOL.  While I am honored, I suspect only a slim minority of folks here have actually heard the album.  I see things at the top that I've never heard either, but if you're in an exploratory mood, it certainly gives you some artists to try out.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I agree for a while there was this thing going with Yes CTTE and Genesis SEBTP, one person would give five stars to one of the albums then two to the other, then the next reviewer would react and reverse it;

eg:

reviewer 1: CTTE -5 Stars, SEBTP -2 Stars

reviewer 2: CTTE- 2 Stars, SEBTP - 5 Stars

etc,etc

The whole thing is ridoculous when this happens because you know this system of reviewing is insincere and its all about which one goes at number one, I just glad the algorithm has been changed and so these two albums are not neck and neck anymore.

Few days ago I had the impression that one guy joined PA with the only purpose to put WYWH over TAAB, reviewed them about one hour after he joined (five and two stars, respectively).

I think it's a shame, but as Easy Livin said, there aren't strong reasons to remove the reviews, unless they're not following the guidelines. And the worst shame of all, is the fact that these kind of people barely submit an original review..... in general, they plagiarize some very low review to bring the rating down.......

Sad, to say the least..... But out of control.
The best you can is good enough...

As long as the reviews meet the guidelines, we don't have any reason to remove them. If they are ratings only, then they will have little or no impact now.

On the plus side, such people may then take a look at the site and decide to expand their horizons.

Maybe my post was too subtle, or maybe it was unclear . What I meant was - Whilst I understand that such tactics generally don't make much difference, has anyone else noticed how often the top albums are reviewed by a someone in a vulgar attempt to manipulate the ratings ?. Particularly where 1 review immediately follows the other.

Man calm down! I'm not attacking you or your thread... I'm just giving my opinion, which is: I don't think it's a big deal....AN OPINION... gee!....

Of course some people abuse the system.. but they have less chance to abuse with greatly-reviewed albums like those usually in the top spots... it's with those 3-reviews-only albums where they got the chance to really abuse the system....
