Seconded! Close this baby!
This was a waste of thread space, what is it coming to when we have to complain about people having different opinions?

Let the review stay. It doesn't break the rules in any way.
Grow up and accept the fact that people are entitled to have an opinion of their own, regarless of whether it corresponds to that of other people or not. Edited by Philéas - July 04 2007 at 09:15 |

No I just find his review to be completely inaccurate as well as misleading and lacking in any merit |

Just because you think he's really good means nothing he played could be simple?
Just because he's not a blues guitarist means he never played any blues? |

Yes I did write my own review and I am in the process of writing more reviews of his other albums. I just think it is a pity that his is the first review there and that the album now carries such a low rating. The man deserves far better than that. |

I, too, am a big JB fan but I think this is just a case of different strokes for different folks and the reviewer is entitled to his/her opinion no matter what you or I think. At least they are able to write complete sentences. I suggest you write your own review that refutes this one to balance it out.

I truly believe that this person could not have listened to this album more than once and if he did listen to it all the way through at least once obviously did not listen very closely. As a guitarist for over thrity years I find the comment "(Mostly) simple guitar pieces are distorted and completed by dull effects," to be incredibly ignornant and actually embarassing for this site. Also the comment "this album is boring, uncreative, and uninspired, but from time to time, orchestra kicks in and Jeff plays his blues" shows a lack of knowledge of Jeff Beck's career in that he has not played the blues since the Yardbirds and even then was never really considered so much as a blues guitarist. To give this album one star is absurd. This is a highly regarded piece of work and a wonderfully creative album. Also I have noticed that someone gave quite a few of his albums one star(with no review) and of course that drives down his ratings on all his albums. I find this hard to believe that a musician who has been such a huge influence on music throughout the years and truly an innovator can have so many low ratings. I understand that I am bias as I have been a Jeff Beck fan since 1970 or so but nonetheless the integrity of the Prog Archives is compromised by this review and someone haphazardly rating his work. Thank you for taking the time to read this. His review is posted belowJEFF BECK — JeffReview by Shakespeare (Josh)PROG REVIEWER Jeff goes undustrial. Jeff does a lot of computer-generated songs, similar to King Crimson's modern stuff. Only, his is much worse. It painfully repeats the same useless passages endlessly. (Mostly) simple guitar pieces are distorted and completed by dull effects, and twisted spoken phrases. The chaotic drums don't help, either. For the most part, this album is boring, uncreative, and uninspired, but from time to time, orchestra kicks in and Jeff plays his blues. However, these sections are so scarce, and so abruptly met (see Seasons) that it doesn't save this album. JB's Blues is quite soft, and has a nice touch of keyboards, along with some great guitar. Unfortunately, the rest of the album (with the exception of the last two songs, which are full of orchestra) is tedious modern electric trash. I suggest you invest your money elsewhere. |
