   Dime definitely had a distinctive style that many have tried to emulate, but nobody's come close to.  An acquired taste, sure, but he knew his way around a fretboard.

Not only was he a fine musician, he was a genuinely nice guy too.  He had none of the rockstar ego mentality.  I met him on several occasions during the Driven/Trendkill years.

	I agree. It's relatively common for a guitar player to be very good, but it's much less common for a guitar player to have a truly unique sound. Dimebag had a very unique sound. Particularly on the albums Vulgar Display, Far Beyond Driven, and Southern Trendkill, that band made some of the best heavy metal ever. It's hard to describe exactly what about his sound was different, but there was never anyone that sounded like him before, and I'm still searching for a suitable substitute these days. The guitar in bands like Lamb of God tries to imitate him, but I haven't found anyone who really has that Dimebag sound yet. Maybe there never will be another. Sidenote: anyone know if that one Damageplan album is worth getting?

	I think, even though I found Pantera a little (a lot in latter releases) noisy, their late guitar player was one of the best around, Dimebag Darrell. His solo in Floods is just amazing and, yes, even beautiful. Want to know if somebody agrees or if you think he was overrated.
