Topic: TOOL Album Art Released Posted: April 28 2006 at 14:38 |
regarding the artwork: I saw there is a version slightly more expensive in digipack format with some weird stuff...
there will also be a 30$ edition signed by Alex Gray with silver ink...

Hi .. I'm new.
I don't know how I managed to get tickets ... but I was one of the lucky few. With 3000 seats ... 2 a piece ... so 1500 concurrent transactions, which of course happened in about 10 seconds.
I heard about the new album making it's way around the net .. figured it was BS like last time.
It's not BS .. I have it .. and it's awesome. I feel bad for the band that it leaked, but I'll still buy it .. a few times I'm sure.
Oh and for Progtologist .. who is finding it hard to take the names "The Pot" and "Rosetta Stoned" seriously ... you will when you hear them. =]
"The Pot" is probably the best song on the album by far.

What the hell kind of cover is that, and why does everyone else like it? I'm so confused right now, am I missing something?
|
I don't like it either, its probably better than the art for Opiate and Undertow, but no where near as good as Lateralus.
Honestly I'm hoping they just don't use Alex Grey again- I like his art, but if, as Tool says, this is not Lateralus II, then they should use art that doesn't resemble Lateralus too much.
are you from tdn?

I don't like it either, but I'm definitely looking forward to the album.

on tool's site, it states that this is only a fraction of the cover, pert of a larger more complex picture. |
Actually, it doesn't say that at all... It says "Album Mini" meaning that the picture is scaled down from the actual size, not cropped (Blair cleared it up). This picture is actually a small photo taken from a much larger painting by Alex Grey.
If you look at the top of the album art from Toolband, some of the little galaxies weren't even painted in at the time that picture was taken... the painting was not complete (it is now).
IMO, it would be extremely tacky of Tool to use a photoshop-saturated picture of an unfinished Alex Grey painting as an album cover. How can that be possible after the amazing Lateralus artwork?
Also, theres a good chance that all the info we have been given is fake- before the release of Lateralus, Tool released a fake track list and album name "Systema Encaphale".
And I find it rather hard to take track titles like "The Pot" and "Rosetta Stoned" seriously. The album title "10,000 Days" sounds too similar to Disturbed's "10,000 Fists"...
Look at the new logo, it can easily be read as "Fool", as in April Fools. (Tool is known for elaborate AF jokes, such as the one where Maynard was quitting the band to dedicate his life to Jesus, every media outlet right up to MTV reported it)
Also, one of the possibly fake tracklists leaked before had "23" as a track name, and now the official track listing has "Vigniti Tres" (latin for 23) as a track. Now what are the chances someone accidentally came up with that?
I have a feeling they are either going to release the real name/listings/album art on April 1st, or hold this out until the album is leaked/released. Then again maybe I'm just dead wrong and Tool have completely lost their tastes. |
I have stated in every Tool new album thread that while all of this stuff(album name, art, track lists)is interesting I will believe nothing until I have the cd in my hands.

Tool (Fool?, heh I like that) have a track record of jerking the
collective chain of its fan base, over and over again. Awesome.
Everyone wants to be the first with the inside skinny, and the band
knows how rabidly people will latch onto tossed tidbits of info. I for
one will not believe anything about the new album until the case is in
my hands, and the disc is in my player.
