Hi,

I'm not sure that simple stoned and recorded piece can compare to the incredible feeling/story for "Moonchild". Not to mention that its idea may have come from a famous novel and applied the idea to the modern-day hippie girl ... about to be raped and killed of its innocence. We STILL don't get it!

Bad choice of compares in my book. Might have considered two pieces that were very occult based (as opposed to fake and cardboard with bats!), or two pieces that were very stoned based. The Byrds song, would be more interesting and appropriate here! But prog'rs even considering the Byrds? Get Ce-Real!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I might add that, while I do like the song part of Moonchild, I don't really have the patience for the whole song... if I am thinking about listening to a song. But if I'm listening to the whole album, then it's actually an enjoyable part of the whole.

Moonchild - B+  Lived this song and wanted to relive it again someday.

APB - B- Lived this one too, but didn't want to relive it, ever again !
I'm sorry, if you were right, I'd agree with you. Robin Williams.

Moonchild - for its fascinating instrumental section.

Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast stands to me as the weakest part of Atom Heart Mother.

Two songs that arise from interesting ideas but which are poorly developed and in a verbose way-

Anyway, Moonchild fly at a higher level.

Not a hater of either, but Moonchild is the clear winner for me.

I love Moonchild and have often explained why. the much hated section of it is an attempt to express the lyrics instrumentally. there are a lot of lines for which this is in my opinion obvious, for example the line "waiting for a smile from a sunchild", which is a metaphor for the sunrise. in classical music the sunrise is always depicted by a C-major chord; examples are Haydn's oratorio "Die Schöpfung" ("The Creation"), Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt Suite" or Richard Strauss' "Also sprach Zarathustra". and how does Moonchild end? with a C-major chord. and this is just one example
