I think that time has come and gone. If it didn't happen in/around 2007, it wasn't going to happen.
Age, health, lack of inspiration, etc. All these things preclude the amount of time and energy it would entail to create a new Genesis album they all felt was on par with the best they could do. 3-man, 5-man, whatever. Neither Peter nor 3-man has put out a new album in 20+ years. They obviously are preoccupied with something else. Genesis is dead...long live Genesis. |

Like I've said before, I personally would like it to sound like And Then There Were Three and Duke with traces of Wind And Wuthering |

I don't expect young people to know who Marillion is. I don't even expect people who were young at Marillion's prime to know who Marillion is. |

I hope they do, just so we can hear young people say, " Hey, there's a new band out, They sound just like Marillion!"

This thread is intended for speculation and rumours about a possible new Genesis studio album. There are plenty of other places for debating which era of the band is better... |

Now that the band are in rehearsals for the upcoming tour (which has been
postponed a few times), are there any rumours about new material? Is it
possible that some new song(s) will be premiered on the tour? Edited by SouthSideoftheSky - March 29 2021 at 06:26 |

Yeah, I agree. Hackett and Phillips are doing well on their own. I was just playing with the thought that they either of them, or both of them, could guest on a new album by the three man line up. Because, why not? |

Well if you substitute “not something I think is realistic” for “it is utterly impossible“, you would be nearer the truth. It will never happen, and neither should it.

That's an interesting suggestion! Both Steve Hackett and Ant Phillips have been doing guest appearances on other people's albums so why not on an album by their old band. That either of them would re-join the band full-time is not something I think is realistic, however. Edited by SouthSideoftheSky - September 15 2020 at 12:13 |

The real question is: Will we ever see a new Peter Gabriel studio album?

I think that they will never realease another album.
If they release another one, i want Ant Phillips in there. |

Like I said on the Yes thread, I'd probably buy it if it happened. They might still have a couple gems left in their old brains.
Anyway, the odds of a new studio album are pretty slim. I think the best chance of them getting together is either a one-off show or a handful of shows. I don't expect Gabriel or Hackett would be involved.

Great artists are great artists. I am a massive fan of ALL F***ING Genesis, its excellent music overall. Just like the pre whatever Genesis era music, its all excellent with both eras having some misses here and there.
The whole catalog is impressive, I really don't understand why people piss on them, other than its those furrowed brow fanny pack wearing prog fans...."I want Suppers Ready!!!" As a younger listener I never dissected the music like that, when I heard Abacab I liked it because it came from a band that I liked a lot, more great music. When Gabriel and Collins came out with solo albums it was a blessing to hear more music from two great artists that helped build Genesis.
