The guy is a genius, that's for sure, though personally I prefer the playing of Satriani, his former tutor.

Became a Vai fan when I saw that live Halloween night 1981 MTV Zappa concert. The attitude...the chops...the stage presence...ya little Stevie Vai is something special. Have all the Zappa albums he appeared on. Far as his solo work goes, love his 1st album Flex-Able and the outtake Flex-Able Leftovers...beyond that not much of a fan of the instrumental guitar genre (Satriani, Greg Howe, Paul Gilbert, etc) so haven't checked out any of Vai's work in that area.

I'm a huge fan of Vai's. I've got all of his albums, listen all the time. Bangkok-Fire Garden Suite sequence is one of my all time favorite.

I really like Vai, Passion and Warfare is a great album. Although, I personally prefer Satriani or early Buckethead (Before he started releasing hundreds of albums a year) when it comes to guitar virtuosos.

Count me in as a fan. That man is amazing. I´ve seen Vai live twice and I was blown away not only by the incredible musicianship but also by his showmanship. He has a great contact with his audience. Zappa taught him well.

Love me some Steve Vai. The trilogy of Passion and Warfare, Alien Love Secrets and Fire Garden are collectively some of my favourite musical works period.

He's one of the greats. I remember when 'The Attitude Song' was released as a floppy in a guitar magazine and it blew us all away. Later I bought Flex-able and then Leftovers (which actually came out in the mid 80s in L.A. but only in small numbers). What I admire most is his industriousness; he's prolific and always with interesting stuff.

Definately. Steve Vai is unmatched in his abilities. However i find his albums to be less than perfect. I generally find his technical abilities unmatched and his songwriting ability very advanced but where he loses me is when he attempts to be the vocalist. His vocal abilities while not horrible are not adequate for his technical abilities. It creates an imbalance. He really should be in a highly evolved progressive metal band where he is an important part of the equation. All his albums are excellent but there are always things that bring them down. My favorites are "Passion And Warfare" and "Real Illusions: Reflections." I do find every album more than worth owning however. His live DVD "The Wild THings" is most spectacular and is recommended to anyone who wants to see the human potential in musicianship. So, yes, i'm a fan!!!!!

Vai's music is so unique, not only he's the greatest guitar player of all time, he can write some really amazing music. I hate that some people think of him as another generic shredder when his totally the opposite. He can write amazing melodies and create some wonderful atmospheres. It's like he's a mix of David Gilmour and John Petrucci mixed in one person. Any one else is a fan?
This is his best song for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiTXGswyAls
