MANTICORA to release 7th full length album in September
Longstanding Danish metal band MANTICORA have completed the recordings of their 7th full length album, “Safe”, at Jailhouse Studios, once again produced and mixed under the guiding hands of Tommy Hansen (known for Jorn Lande, Helloween, Pretty Maids a.o.). Following the successful two-part “Black Circus” albums (released in 2006 and 2007 on now defunct Locomotive Music), “Safe” will see the band exploring a darker and heavier side of their songwriting than in recent years, and contrary to the simplicity of the album cover (a black/white cover only showcasing the band-symbol) “Safe” is filled with high-octane technical power-thrash. The songs on “Safe”, including the 14 minute long title track (Manticora’s longest song to date): 1. In The Abyss Of Desperation 2. Silence The Freedom 3. Complete 4. From The Pain Of Loss ( I Learned About The Truth) 5. A Lake That Drained 6. Carrion Eaters 7. Safe 8. Embryonic Man (bonus track Japan) Upon renewing their deal for Japan with Stay Gold / Art Union Records for the release of the album, Manticora have signed with US based label Nightmare Records for the rest of the World. The releases in Europe and North America have been set for September 21st. Stand by for news on the Asian release date. Also, Manticora has signed with Burrn! Music / Shinko Music Publishing for sub-publishing in Japan and with Enorm Music for sub-publishing in the rest of the World. In September 2010 Manticora will embark on a headliner tour, presented by Rock Hard Magazine, throughout Europe. Support on the tour will come from Norwegian power/prog band Divided Multitude. The dates confirmed so far (more to follow): September 24 2010 - Markthalle, Hamburg, Germany September 25 2010 - Turock, Essen, Germany October 01 2010 - b*****d Club, Osnabrück, Germany October 02 2010 - The Rock Temple, Kerkrade, Holland October 03 2010 - De Pul, Uden, Holland October 04 2010 - Nouveau Casino, Paris, France October 08 2010 - EventStage, Zizers, Switzerland October 09 2010 - Mephisto Club, Alessandria, Italy (tbc) October 11 2010 - Spinnerei, Traun, Austria October 12 2010 - Reigen, Wien, Austria October 13 2010 - Randal Club, Bratislava, Slovakia October 14 2010 - Crazy Mama, Budapest, Hungary October 29 2010 - The Rock, Copenhagen, Denmark More information on Manticora: www. www. Disperse
Recently listed as Neo here at PA but with sufficient metal elements to have a foot squarely in the PM camp too with fusion added just to complement it all.
Believe me well worth the time checking them out, see links below following a sourced Lasers Edge opinion. Enjoy!
"Superb debut release from a very young Polish band. I mean...young. If I'm not mistaken the guitarist was 15 when they formed. That being said they are all serious musicians with an amazing array of technical ability. The band has been taken under Riverside's wing and signed to their new label. OK - on to the music...
The band has assimiliated many different progressive influences, from Dream Theater to Yes to Porcupine Tree. Vocalist Rafał Biernacki has a very good voice but with a bit of an accent. As I previously mentioned these guys have prodigious musical abilities and guitarist Jakub Żytecki demonstrates an ability to play far beyond his years. The symphonic elements remind of Yes but Żytecki's guitar runs morph John Petrucci and Allan Holdsworth. The music goes through many stylistic changes - always teetering on the edge of progressive rock vs progressive metal. Don't tell anyone but there are even some fusion elements present as well. If this is what Disperse is able to accomplish with their first effort its mind boggling to think of what is in store for their future. Highly recommended." |

New debut release by Austrian Band Juvaliant. (see calendar for further details)
On "Inhuman Nature" JUVALIANT present nine tracks of the highest quality in both composition and musicianship. The sheer variety of the tracks on which neither heaviness, melody or bombastic choruses are ignored, high recognizability has been programmed by default. Whichever way you look at it, JUVALIANT and their debut album have come up with a very impressive statement of their musical visions.
Debut album of Austria's most versatile Prog Metal Band.
Musically a balanced mixture of elements of Dream Theater, Symphony X, Threshold, Kamelot, Angra and Epica. Great artwork by the Columbian artist Felipe Machado Franco who has worked in the past for Iced Earth, Ayreon and Axel Rudi Pell |

Their debut album ‘C.H.A.O.S.’ is an enthralling concept album based on the discovery of H.B. Andersons’ great old great grandfather Xerxes Anderson’s Artificial Universe (a.k.a. Prof. Xandau 1807 ~ 1851) notes from his therapy sessions. Prof. Xandau was a very respected therapist during the first half of 19th century and had his sessions all over the world based in both Europe and the U.S. These notes are the solid ground to this project and are used to tell a true story about psychological thoughts and human behaviours. Aeon Zen
Hi everyone,
Rich here with an update from the studio about the new album. I have finished recording all the guitars, bass, drums and keyboards myself and right now I'm working on instrumental mixes of the album which I can then lay the vocals on and mix them into. I have to say, I'm extremely pleased so far, these songs are sounding like everything I had hoped for and then some! From the laid back parts, to the proggy crazy parts, to the headbanging parts, it's all sounding great! I've managed to get some pretty crushing guitar tones for the heavy parts and some really nice and pretty tones for cleans through the Line 6 POD XT and Peavy Revalver as well. For the guitars on this album I've actually used a mixture of the Ibanez Universe (as featured on the last Aeon Zen album "A Mind's Portrait") and my lovely new Caparison Dellinger 7 SE. The bass is actually DI'd into IK Multimedia's fantastic Ampeg SVX amp simulator plugin, so that's sounding great too, lots of low end while still retaining all the clarity, just like you would expect from any Ampeg amp. The drums are sounding as good and powerful as ever through the Roland TD-20KX, the dynamics on that kit are outstanding! I actually now have all the vocal tracks back from the singers to go on the album, Michael Eriksen (Circus Maximus), Jem Godfrey (Frost), Andi Kravljaca (Silent Call), Nick D'Virgilio (Sock's Beard), Jonny Tatum (Eumeria) have all contributed their amazing voices to this album, as well as the tracks that I'm singing myself. So once I've done these instrumental mixes and got everything sounding nice and consistent there, I will get to work on making these vocals as awesome as they can possibly be. So everything is starting to take a very definite shape. I'm very excited and I can't wait for you all to hear this! I hope to start putting up some "making-of the album" videos on youtube soon, so be sure to keep your eyes open for them. Also, there is a brand new Aeon Zen track, entitled Visions (with Andi Kravljaca on vocals) off the new album "The Face of the Unknown", being featured on the cover CD of the upcoming issue of Classic Rock Presents Prog Magazine (Prog 8), so be sure to pick up a copy for the first chance to hear this new, never before heard track. In the mean time, take a listen to this album preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3A9mBECjqA So it's back to work now for me... Rock on and I'll talk to you all again very soon! Rich Hinks |

Apologies in advance, this is a bit lengthy.
Evergrey
As promised here is the first part of news regarding Evergrey as a band.
At first it might seem devastating and frightening as it did to us when making this decision. People change, evolve and grow, sometimes in different ways and in different directions. This happens to everyone and it has certainly happened to Evergrey as a band throughout the years. Me and Rikard have together with Henrik and Jonas made the mutual decision that it was best for us all that they leave Evergrey. They wanted to and we wanted them to. The last tours, recordings and just hanging with each other has not been as fun and giving as earlier AND before it would go too far, resulting in a collision in between friends, which could ruin everything we have built up during the years, we decided to call it quits. It’s sometimes both smart and foreseeing to end situations before they get out of hand and create something that is totally unnecessary and irreparable. To be in a band must be experienced as fun, giving and fulfilling. There is SO much time during a life as a touring musician that is boring that if you don’t even enjoy yourself while playing then it’s better to do something else. Henrik and Jonas also got “DeathDestruction” that ALSO has evolved and became more and more serious during the years and now they even recorded a debut album and naturally it felt fresh and reviving for them to enter something new and unexplored as opposed to Evergrey where they more or less experienced the same things over and over. It is VERY important for us to tell you that we are still great friends and most likely always will be since we have shared 10 years of our lives and dedicated it to the progress and evolvement of Evergrey. The friendship is what we value the most and nothing could be more important than that, at least for the four of us. So please take some time to digest and understand. That is what we have done and I am glad to say that all of us are happier than in a long time. BUT that is not the end of it. Jari ALSO decided to leave the band, and the reason was that he would rather play with a band called “Killing machine” as they could offer him a salary we couldn’t and that was the sole reason of his decision. We were REALLY sad to see Jari leave as he is a tremendous bass-player and person.
I know what you all are thinking… ENOUGH WITH depressing news. So to something brighter: Should we quit what we are doing, something that we still love as much as ten years ago, if not more, because of someone else disappearing, I mean it’s not like it’s the first time it happens and it never made Evergrey stagnate or lose its edge, quite the contrary. So should we continue to make the music that we and YOU enjoy deeply? As you understand we have chosen to continue. We have a full album written and half-way recorded. Last recording/mixing day will be June 30th. And a release BEFORE or at the latest on the 14th of October is set. We will soon (as we use to) start feeding you snippets. We ALSO have a European Tour coming up – starting NEXT SUNDAY in Hamburg. And to be able to do that tour we must have new members, and we do! So please be open-minded and welcome: Marcus Jidell (Royal Hunt) on Guitars So be sure to bring your CDs of the above mentioned bands to the shows to have them signed These are the guys we have been working hard with to rehearse the old songs and writing the new ones. And today was our last rehearsal for the tour and I must say it sounds great in a way I didn’t expect after such a short time. There is not a chance in HELL you will be disappointed in the performance of these guys. So that’s why we do this tour… to bring and present the new guys to you and also at the same time get the chance to play the cities we didn’t do on the November tour of course. As with ANY change, when you give it time you realize that it’s turned out for the better. So far in this EVER-LASTING changing of members in Evergrey, it’s always turned out great and brought fresh blood and motivation into the band, and the level of wanting to prove ourselves as a band is higher than EVER before. We do have some other great news that surely will bring this band to another level but as of yet we are restricted to speak about it. So don’t give up on us, you never have, and we love you for it! Exivious
Not the best of news to start the week.
For the first time since the release of our debut album back in May of 2009 I'm afraid we have to bring some really sad news. After careful consideration we decided to officially pull the plug on Exivious.
It's not a secret that this band and the album we released last year are very dear to me personally, but also to the rest of the band who put in the best their talent and creativity had to offer to create something really unique. But besides our personal experience, we feel all of you out there who supported us the past year are part of our Exivious community as well and as such you guys deserve a proper explanation of what's happening.
We're in a situation right now where we are simply unable to give Exivious the attention and love we believe it deserves. All four of us are completely consumed by other activities and it doesn't seem like this is going to change anytime soon. So instead of slowly letting our beloved band bleed to death, we rather put it to sleep ourselves.
In retrospect, we were completely blown away by the overwhelmingly positive response from both our listeners but also the press who reviewed our album. Never did we expect to get such a warm and enthusiastic reaction to our crazy music. With this in mind we'd like to thank all of you who supported us by picking up a copy of our album in the past year!
As most of you know we started things off by offering a luxurious limited edition of which we only printed a thousand copies. We're happy to announce we're sold out! The digipack version of our album is still available through our website and a select group of retailers.
Last but not least, we'd like to end this sad message with some good news. For the first time in Exivious history we're offering a t-shirt in our online shop which features the artwork of our debut album! Pre-orders are available at www.exivious.net.

Napoli, April, 2010 – A good four years after Vanden Plas last critically acclaimed studio recording, “Christ O” hit the charts, Germany’s finest Prog Metal act is set to release its brand new album: “The Seraphic Clockwork”, on June 4th, in Europe and June 22nd in the USA.
![]() Highly anticipated by fans and critics alike, “The Seraphic Clockwork” is a fascinating concept album, which not only shows the quintet’s exceptional technical skills, but also highlights their impressive development as songwriters. The new album sounds more multi-layered, progressive and metal-oriented than any previous Vanden Plas release. “I think that my penchant for music of the tougher persuasion shines through more than ever before on this album,” comments guitarist Stephan Lill, who – together with keyboardist Günter Werno and vocalist Andy Kuntz – make up the group’s creative triumvirate. He adds: “Hard riffs, elaborate keyboard and orchestral arrangements plus catchy hooklines come together in a perfect symbiosis which marks Vanden Plas’ own style. I feel that we were much more adventurous on with The Seraphic Clockwork than ever before.” A perfect example which substantiates this statement, is the 13-minute track ‘On My Way To Jerusalem’, a little masterpiece within a homogeneous, self-contained album. The song takes the listener on a haunting, adventurous journey which comes full circle musically towards its end. From soaring piano sounds through hard riffs and versatile arrangements to atmospheric parts, the whole range of expressive forms which the Progressive Metal genre has to offer are present. On the other hand, ‘Heal The World’ with its melodic intro, subsequent heavy riff and catchy chorus, reveals the band’s affinity to theatre music and all its complexity, and is classic Vanden Plas. The band's fascination with classical history has left its mark on “The Seraphic Clockwork” particularly in terms of lyrics: the dramatic science fiction story of the concept album was penned by vocalist Andy Kuntz and chronicles a journey in place and time from 16th century Rome to Jerusalem in the year 33 A.D. The protagonist, after an apocalyptic vision, has come under the spell of an Old Testament prophecy and must travel back through the centuries to face his God-given destiny. “It’s about being unable to escape fate”, explains Kuntz, a master at making complex subject matter both fascinating and accessible to contemporary audiences. “Working for the theatre has definitely influenced the story’s depth. When you realize or reproduce your own projects on a stage, you learn a lot about dramaturgy.” “The Seraphic Clockwork” was exclusively presented to the journalists in a press showcase held in Koln, Germany on April 9th. Some of the reactions to the preview include: “Great comeback of Germany’s leading Prog Metal band!” Mike Borrink - Rock Hard Germany “Those who have been concerned that Vanden Plas might have lost their riff power over the last few years don't have to worry anymore: their new album „The Seraphic Clockwork“ is a perfect example for a well-balanced mixture of intelligent prog tunes, heavy riffing and the uncompromising love for hard music.” Thorsten Zahn - Classic Rock Mag Germany “They've made us wait but one of the best and most respected Progressive Metal bands are back with the heaviest, most epic and diverse album of their career to date. Awesome stuff.” Matthew Adrian Spall - Powerplay , UK “The Seraphic Clockwork" is unbelievable, fantastic, great music with a great story. Vanden Plas are the Prog Metal kings.” Marco Magin – Breakout, Germany "Intense, melodic and challenging at the same time, this new offering by Vanden Plas has what it takes to please the most demanding Progressive Metal fans." Morgan Rivalin - Rock Hard France The musical and lyrical complexity of “The Seraphic Clockwork” is certainly inspiring. Vanden Plas have proved again that they are the most imaginative and diverse of German Prog Metal bands and justly enjoy the highest international acclaim. It can only be a matter of time before this concept album also makes it onto the stage. “The Seraphic Clockwork” includes the following tracks: Frequency; Holes In The Sky; Scar of an Angel; Sound of Blood; The Final Murder; Quicksilver; Rush of Silence; On My Way to Jerusalem. ![]() VANDEN PLAS Andy Kuntz (vocals), Stephan Lill (guitar), Günter Werno (keyboards), Torsten Reichert (bass), Andreas Lill (drums) DISCOGRAPHY COLOUR TEMPLE (1995) ACCULT (1996) THE GOD THING (1997) FAR OFF GRACE (1999) SPIRIT OF LIVE (2000) BEYOND DAYLIGHT (2002) CHRIST O (2006) New: THE SERAPHIC CLOCKWORK (2010) Weblinks: www.vandenplas.de / www.myspace.com/vplas www.frontiers.it / www.myspace.com/frontiersrecords |
