I feel that Dun are more on the RIO side of things but their nationality (and monster bass) aligns them with zeuhl. Keep spreadin' that word bhikkhu !

Definitely more accessible than I would ever have imagined. Still, it remains quite complex. Quite a nice balance achieved there. It also has a much more updated sound than Magma. I'm not sayiing that makes it better, just different.

I too find the ol' copey a good read for most parts, I find myself going back time and time again to read up on those obscure bands he some how gets his hands on. Though as you said it does seems strange to sl*g off such bands as Verto, from what I have heard it sounds quite good and no need for harsh remarks, but I guess that is my opinion.

Yurkorin, which books do you have by him? Are they a good read? What subjects to the touch upon?

Also another thing, I really would like to know where he gets his resources. Some of the material he reviews is extremely rare. Like I was reading his review on Tokyo Kid Brothers, I have no idea how he tracked this one down, it is almost impossible to find information about them let alone the album.

I can't quite make ol' Copey out. For someone who has a blind love of krautrock and Magma and regularly writes about obscure progresssive music from around the world he does love to sl*g off the ol' prog. I like his writing style and have a couple of books of his but he seems to try too hard to force an image of himself.

I finally got a copy of "Eros," and it is good. I didn't know what to expect at all, having only heard Magma.

Yukorin, your reviews never fail to amuse and entertain me. Which is a good factor by the way! It many have even pushed me that little bit further to go and buy it. I'm might have a look sometime soon to see if my store can order it in, I'm assuming it is still available from soleil zeuhl? Or is this one going to be a wild goose chase!

I don't think mellow is going to be a problem, it is always nice to get away from the intensity of things every now and again. Give my poor head a rest.

On another note I was sorting through the mess on my computer and I came across Verto (one of the above mentioned bands). I only have one song "Et Terre" which I like, has almost a Krautrock feel to it with percuilar distortion to the guitars. I think I the found song somewhere on one of the numerous NNW list sites. I will have to do some more search to see what I can dig up from the archives.

Buy the Archaia cd BV an' don't look back. May be a bit mellow for you but it is one helluva classic release. I made my usual drunk feelings on the matter here:

Thank you for this. Most of the strickly LP ones go straight over my head, Other than Eider Stellaire some of the names sound vage but that is about the extent of things. Luckly enough I have a vinyl play, it is just the prices of the actual vinyl which is going to be the issue here

On the CD side of things they are looking better. I have heard of all of those bands by name, but not on musical terms. I have been looking into Archaia though, from discriptions I have heard this one is really interesting me. Supposedly very dark atomsphere (correct me if I am wrong), figurse when looking at the cover!

Also I read your review on Hellebore, which kept me thorough entertain (needless to comment of the humour throughout ), and to say the least has intreged my mind.

Here we are:

"Artist: YOG SOTHOTH
Album: Yog Sothoth
Year: 1984

Yog Sothoth, that is one of the more terrible creatures and fascinating protagonists of the saghe of H.P. Lovercraft, master and founder indiscusso of the contemporary orrorifica literature, heir of authors like Poe or Hodgson, of which it made synthesis migliorativa, sublimando some and perfecting of the inspiration.
What therefore to attend from these French if not left music and alarming? … effectively our expectations come satisfied, even if, in primis, it goes said that the base on which they rest the brani of this disc unexpectedly turns out constituted from avant-jazz of French school, as soon as “soiled” with magmiane atmospheres (rilette in key sure more picked regarding Vander and associates), played shiningly from musicians it equips to you much, and enriched from a remarkable job of it arches and breaths that allow meaningfully to recover and to graft on the aforesaid premises strong infuences of classic contemporary: we are therefore in presence of one varying less frequent regarding the more usual situation for many “alternated you” of the school darker franc-Belgian (Univers Zero, Art Zoyd, Vortex…) in which the classic contemporary it is placed like source of if by far not only dominant inspiration.
The brani alternate complex parts, strongly structured and premeditated, to passages less compounds, dedicates you to the improvisation on canovaccio, however absolutely never banal, it discounts to you or become simpler to you.

The adopted instrumentation, beside battery, contrabbasso, slowly, breaths and arches, clearly dominant, parcamente contemplates also of the keyboards, used a lot, and comes integrated from vocalizes feminine, raising the total musical restlessness rate.
A rich disc of personality and quality, unfortunately for still not reprinted hour on cd.

Not there is trippa for the sinfonici puristi, to avoid from part of the lovers of prog the more solar and little dissonante, lively advised to all the others.
… I forgot: the pornobambola usual used who characterizes the object photographed in cover (is recommended, writes to Agartha, not to the Carrą!)"

Not the best translation but at least it is understandable.

Are you are going to force me into yet another purchase. Now if only I had an ebay account

I have been trying to look for some information and there really doesn't seem to be much of anything does there! I keep getting references to H.P. Lovecraft

What are some other Zeuhl project you would recommend which are not on this sight? I'm really looks to expand my thoughts about Zeuhl and I think you might be the perfect person to help me

Ah yes you are very correct with your second guess. Not to mention good seeing another Henry Cowell fan . The band was named after the 20th century French composser Olivie Messian. Also not to mention the bands love for Olives For a lativan band they have a lot of French influecnce (especially in there lyrics), hence the Zeuhl leanings in their music. They are quite an odd band, mixing what seems to me tradional Latvian folk music with dark Zeuhl passages. I have written their bio for this site if you want a little more information. And yes they are Zeuhl.

Yes for some reason I cannot really explain why I like their second so much, I think it has something to do with the atomsphere. It is really something hard to explain.

Also never heard the '94 Shub cd. In fact, I didn't even know it had been released ! I'm living in the past somewhat.

Have to admit the 2nd Shub has never really grown on me. Maybe if their debut wasn't so strong I might not have expected so much.
