Adagio working on upcoming album

Stéphan Forté, Kevin Codfert and Mats Levén, are at the moment working on the composition of Adagio's fifth album at Kevin's XFade studio in Nanterre(France)
Stéphan: Hey everyone, here's some great news ! I'm at the moment at Kevin's studio working on the composition of Adagio's upcoming album, and for the first time, I will not compose the whole music and lyrics alone, as Mats, Kevin and the guys will also collaborate to the writing !! It will definitely bring a fresher sound to the band, and so far, the experience is awesome. Mats arrived here on Sunday, and we've started working right away on some ideas. Lots of great melodic vocal lines, heavy riffing and intense piano parts are coming naturally, so that's a very positive start...
Another big change, is since I've down tuned my Lâg 7 string to A for my solo album, I am now using that for Adagio's new stuff as well, so be prepared for some really heavy sh*t ;))

Jacob will be mixing our debut album in August of this year (2010). We feel he is the perfect fit for our style of music.

Please stop by his website and check out some of the bands he's recorded, mixed, produced and played in. We think you'll recognize a lot of the bands.

Kingcrow

Formed back in 1996, Kingcrow is one of the leading Italian progressive metal bands, taking its name from Edgar Allan Poe's poem 'Raven' and inspired by a wide range of musical influences, spanning from classic acts such as Pink Floyd and Rush to modern day prog giants such as Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Opeth, Orphaned Land and Dream Theater. 'Phlegethon' is the confirmed title for the band's new effort, following the critically acclaimed concept-album 'Timetropia', which secured them enthusiastic reviews in the international press and several high profile gigs at big rock/metal events including Gods Of Metal (alongside Iron Maiden and Judas Priest among others) and Evolution festival (alongside Sebastian Bach, Virgin Steele and Fates Warning among others). 'Phlegethon' is a brand-new concept representing the very best of the band's musical approach and features a first class performance by Diego Marchesi, singer with outstanding vocal skills and an emotional approach which consolidated Kingcrow as one of the most exciting bands that Italy has to offer.

Canvas Solaris

"Irradiance" released July 13th through Sensory Records.(see calendar for further info)

“There's limitless potential in a band this talented, if you ask me. They sound to my ears like a Jon Anderson-less Yes, covering Cynic's unreleased material (if any) while secretly worshipping the likes of Dream Theater.“ – musicemissions.com

One of the key members of the “djent metal” community are back!. “Irradiance” is the fifth release from this instrumental band. Djent metal is a relatively new sub-genre of progressive metal characterized by a certain type of palm muted guitar tone. Often attributed to Meshuggah, djent bands like Animals As Leaders, Scale The Summit, and Behold The Arctopus have a hardcore following of musicians and fans of progressive metal. Canvas Solaris is firmly ensconced in this field.

The band has evolved dramatically from their beginnings as a death metal/mathcore band. Over time the band has assimilated progressive rock into their sound, balancing hyper-technical passages with dreamy, textured soundscapes.

The band is always interested in presenting their work with interesting graphics. They are honored to have noted low brow artist Mars-1 provide the cover art. Once again the album was produced by Jamie King (Between The Buried and Me) and mastered by Alan Douches.

(shamefully copied from Olav's post in the main forum Embarrassed LOL)

Metal Mind Productions presents the complete discography of one of the best and most influential prog-metal bands of the 80’s – Crimson Glory.

The exclusive 5 CD box entitled “In Dark Places…1986-2000” contains all of their studio albums: “Crimson Glory”, “Transcendence”, “Strange And Beautiful”, “Astronomica” (2CD). The box also includes bonus tracks, such as songs taken from singles, videos, live or demo tracks plus a 60 pages booklet. All recordings are remastered using tube technology. Box is limited to 1000 numbered copies and is a must-have for all fans of the band as well as for the lovers of the progressive metal genre!

Crimson Glory’s origin reaches the 80’s, when the band emerged with a dazzling combination of early Queensryche style, fascinating guitar melodies and distinctive, emotive vocals. The line-up, consisting of Ben Jackson (guitars), Jon Drenning (guitars), Jeff Lords (bass), Dana Burnell (drums) and Midnight (vocals) recorded two albums – Crimson Glory and Transcendence, both bringing the band a large number of devoted fans. The unique musical mixture, followed by a characteristic image (all band members wore silver masks) marked the beginning of a prog metal legend. But the band did not wish to be captivated in only one musical style. With their third album, Crimson Glory reached far beyond simple power metal musicianship, replacing it with complex, precise songwriting, controversial both in sound and structure. Strange and Beautiful turned out as an epic musical experience, filled with elements borrowed from prog metal, as well as blues and hard rock. For some fans the band explored far too commercial regions, but others greeted Crimson Glory’s evolution enthusiastically. Unfortunately, after the release of their third LP the group stepped down from the scene for six years. It wasn’t until 1997, when Jon Drenning and Jeff Lords decided to reunite Crimson Glory. Ben Jackson’s return was a great start to the process; however it was soon clear that this trio will be the only remaining members of the original line-up, as vocalist Midnight was at that time not interested in recording a new album. Drenning, Lords and Jackson had a tough decision on whom to set as a replacement for the charismatic singer. The final choice was Wade Black, whose vocals sounded much more powerful and aggressive, brining a totally new quality to Crimson Glory’s music. After adjoining ex-Savatage drummer Steve Wacholz the band was ready for a definite comeback. In 1999 Astronomica saw daylight. The album proved the band’s great form, being both a nod to the past as well as updated for the present, retaining some of the classic guitar harmonies with a slightly more dynamic approach. Although soon after its release Black left the band to front Seven Witches and Leash Law, Crimson Glory did not cease to exist. On May 2010 the band announced that a new singer, Todd La Torre, had joined the band. La Torre made his first (and as yet only) public appearance with Crimson Glory at ProgPower USA X as one of seventeen guest performers paying tribute to Midnight, the band's original singer who passed away in 2009 The band is currently working on their new material.

Metal Mind Productions will release “In Dark Places…1986-2000” on 23rd August in Europe and 5th October in USA (via MVD).

Work in the studio has finally started to run more smoothly. We had two days of technical issues that prevented us from recording properly. However, I've now completed three songs and they sound amazing. It's such a blessing to work with Oliver Philipps. Not only is he a genious when it comes to musical arrangements but he's also a dear friend which makes it all so much more enjoyable. /Stefan Zell

Halcyon Way unveil cover art for “Building The Towers”, designed by Travis Smith

 ....

Nightmare Records recording artist Halcyon Way have unveiled the art for their sophomore release, “Building The Towers”.  The design was handled by the legendary Travis Smith, known for his work with Opeth, Nevermore, Avenged Sevenfold, Overkill, and many others.  The album is due for worldwide release late Summer 2010, and the release date will be announced in the coming days.  Two advance tracks from the album can be heard on the band’s MySpace page.

 ....

The follow up release to 2008’s A Manifesto For Domination will be the band’s first release to feature new vocalist Steve Braun, known for his work with Italian progressive-metallers ASHENT, who have released two records via Lion Music, as well as a special guest appearance by Pamela Moore of QUEENSRYCHE fame.  Lasse Lammert, best known for his work producing the last several ALESTORM releases, will be producing the new album along with guitarist Jon Bodan. The drums were tracked at Open Sky Studios in Atlanta, GA with Mike Froedge (DOUBLEDRIVE, BLOODSIMPLE, DIXIE INCORPORATED) at the helm.

 ....

“We couldn’t be happier with the way the art for Building The Towers is coming out – Travis has really outdone himself for us, and we can’t wait to get the CD in your hands,” said guitarist Zane Matthews.  “Not only is the art incredibly impressive, but the songwriting, production, and performances on this album are all a huge step up from Manifesto.”

 ....

The band is fresh off of a May tour of the UK with FOZZY, and in addition to that  Halcyon Way has appeared at Rocklahoma on three occasions, Nightmare Metal Festival II, Pathfinder Metalfest, and at ProgPower USA twice, as well as having shared the stage with HELLOWEEN, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, KAMELOT, TO/DIE/FOR, SYMPHONY X, DORO PESCH, and many others.

 ....

Halcyon Way released their debut record, “A Manifesto For Domination” on Nightmare Records on November 11, 2008 to rave critical reviews.  The album was produced by guitarist Jon Bodan with assistance from James Murphy (TESTAMENT, DEATH, OBITUARY), and was mixed by Lasse Lammert (ALESTORM).  It also featured guest appearances from Jonah Weingarten (PYRAMAZE, AVIAN) and Blaze Pearson (THE SOULS UNREST).

 ....

For more information, visit www.halcyonway.com or www.myspace.com/halcyonway.  You can also follow the band on Facebook & Twitter.  For booking, contact mike.clark (at) halcyonway.com.

Devin Townsend Announces First Ever Solo Headlining Tour

One of metal’s most intriguing, ominous and immensely talented figures, the mighty Devin Townsend, is extremely excited to announce that for the first time in his solo career he will be embarking on a headlining tour. This will be a special evening exploring a 15 year musical journey with Townsend performing songs spanning his entire vast catalog. Supporting acts will be announced soon along with East Coast shows, but see below or visit the Tour Dates page to view the initial headlining tour itinerary.

Special VIP Packages and Presale Tickets will be available for the tour. Please visit https://tixx1.artistarena.com/devintownsend for more information.

Addicted was released in Nov. 2009 and has become his fastest selling solo record in his career. Townsend is currently working on two new albums for 2011. The new, mind-blowing offering, Addicted, was met with worldwide critical praise and scored very impressive first week numbers debuting at #168 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #2 on the Billboard Heatseakers chart.

Townsend further states: “Sitting here at the airport after months of preparation for the European festivals, getting this material ready to be heard the way it’s meant to be heard has been a pretty mean task. Last night’s epic rehearsal was one of those moments when you realize the work put into making it right results in an awesome sound. I have been given the opportunity now to bring this music to North America in my first ever solo headlining tour. It’s not a huge tour, but I really would appreciate seeing some of the familiar faces and hopefully some new ones as well. It’s cheesy to announce your touring plans as ‘the biggest or best’ of anything, but I love this music, we’ve worked really hard to get it right. If you’re one of the folks that dig it, then this should be a great, heavy and fun time that sounds the way it should.

“I’m honored to be able to play for you after all these years. There’s a ton of great tours coming up, and here is my contribution. Rock the f**k out, stay positive.”

Check out some footage of Devin Townsend Project from their early 2010 tour with BTBAM/Cynic at the link below

Symphony X

My apologies for the uber-delay in getting an update posted; we've had to coordinate MJR and me, band management, and multiple people at both the US label office AND the Euro label office spanning quite a few time zones in all. Hopefully it'll go more smoothly from here on out as we all adjust to working together, but for now, here's your very belated update!

Just spoke with MJR and here's the latest scoop! Mike said that the drums and most of the rhythm guitars are all recorded. At the moment, they are fine tuning the lyrics and melodies, during which time Russ will also be recording his vocals. Personally, I get more excited about this cd the more Mike tells me about it; I am quite secure in saying that it will be well worth the wait.

While the band is busy working on the cd, we'd like to keep you busy as well; the band needs your help, in two areas. Firstly: the existing FAQ on the band's website was put together when 'The Odyssey' came out; obviously that was quite a while ago and lots has changed since then, including some significant gear/endorsement changes as well as a label change. So that's where you come in: help us put together a new FAQ for the new website. What do you want to ask the band? PLEASE do not send in questions like 'when are you going to play [insert location]?' or 'when will you make a dvd?'; best to stick to general information questions if you want the band to answer them. Send in your questions to [email protected] with "FAQ" in the subject line, and they'll be sent to the band; who knows, your question may show up in the FAQ on the band's new site! For those who have been wondering, we're anticipating that the new site will launch around the same time as the new cd.

Secondly: what band(s) would you like to see tour with/open for Symphony X? Who do you think would match best with SymX, or bring in a good crowd? Send your suggestions to [email protected] and perhaps you'll get to see the band
you choose on SymX's next tour.

That's it for now; hopefully now that we've gotten the update process all ironed out, our news updates will be a lot more regular again. Thanks for your patience!

Jax :)
SymX Staff

The new movie Jonah Hex starring Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, and Megan Fox features a thunderous score composed by Mastodon and Oscar®-nominated Marco Beltrami (The Hurt Locker, 3:10 to Yuma). Mastodon were personally asked by the film’s director, Jimmy Hayward to sore the film.

For their first venture into the realm of film, Mastodon would record the tracks spontaneously while viewing the movie footage, proving to be a daring and daunting way of creating music together over a short period of time. The resulting sessions yielded incredibly exciting results produced in a completely different way than they normally would approach writing and recording for a Mastodon album. The 6-track EP from the original motion picture score for Jonah Hex will be released on June 29th, featuring four new tracks: “Death March,” “Clayton Boys,” “Indian Theme,” and “Train Assault” with two bonus versions available through iTunes and all other digital outlets.

Click below to visit the film’s official site and to watch the trailer.

Cirrha Niva

(also see Torodd's great interview with the band here: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=68421&PID=3695028#3695028)

Drummer Wiebe Slim (ex-Melora Rain) joins Cirrha Niva!

We already did one show with Wiebe while supporting The 11th Hour, but at that time he was just doin' us a favour. Needless to say that there was a perfect match that day, which resulted in the fact that Wiebe joined the band.

Wiebe will introduce himself further on this week, but let's reveal something already right now.

As a drummer he is influenced by Virgil Donati, Thomas Lang, Marco Minneman, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Benny Greb, Gavin Harrison, Mike Portnoy and many more. So it's obvious he likes Planet X, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree & Symphony X.

At the same time we'd like to take the opportunity to thank former drummer Tommy White and wish him a full recovery!

Greets Cirrha Niva.
