I just watched Echoes from the Live in Pompei DVD and I can't stop the tears from falling...
I grew up listening to you play and sing.
You will be missed.

I am deeply shocked and filled with sadness at this news. Not only was Rick a keyboard pioneer in the genre of psychedelic music, his contribution to progressive rock was overwhelming. His influence ranges far and wide in prog, from electronic groups like Tangerine Dream, to the whole space-rock/prog sub-genre with groups like Hawkwind and Porcupine Tree, to name a few. I am so grateful that I saw PF in concert with Rick and Roger Waters in '75 and '79. His work on "Echoes," and on the beginning of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" will stay with me forever. To me he was always an underrated keyboardist, but I believe if it wasn't for Rick, the music would not be the same now. It's now his turn to shine brightly in the heavens.

He was a true pioneer. His spacey textures and epic landscapes were the very definition of prog cool. A big part of Floyd's mystery and grace, something Roger Waters should have realized. RIP.

"We were cut off from our lives, by a wall of pain, It can't be seen, it's so routine, it has no face or name.
But now the day has broken, can see in better ways, A path leading to the light, a hope that never fades. All power to the brave.
You feel her warmth, feel it like solar rays, See how, they kindle fire, illuminate her face.
Free as the sunlight that shines down from above, That opens us all to feel love "
Richard Wright - Along The Shoreline (excerpt)
Rest in peace Rick.

Our dearest Richard Wright, besides being a gentleman, a serene person and a warm soul, was also a relevant musician/writer/arranger for some of the greatest moments in the best ages of PF (from "Ummagumma" to "Animals"). Either as a writer or an arranger, the big presence of layers, harmonies, ornaments and subtle solos on his ever changing arsenal of keyboards (Farfisa, Hammond, grand and electric pianos, mellotron, ARP, Moog and VCS3 synths, clavinet) are proof that his input was crucial for the creation and development of what now is known as "the Floydian style". Name any big moment in PF's repertoire, be it psychedelic, space-rock, prog, experimental blues-oriented rock, acoustic pastoral, Wright's performance was there as a real asset for the entire quartet's sound.
Thank You For The Music, Master Rick, Shine On!!!

Terribly sad news. It's a shock because nobody new. The BBC says he had a short illness, which is probably a mercy. In the many interviews with him I've seen he always came across as a thoroughly decent bloke with no superstar ego at all. Remember that he was a superstar of the keyboards, his simple but effective style was a leading part in Floyd's success.
I've always loved his keyboards on "Sheep" so I will go and play that now.

I echo what everyone else says. This is shockingly sad news. This is certainly not something I wanted to read. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and of course, the other members of Pink Floyd. You will be missed, that is for sure. In pace, requiescat, Richard Wright.

Gutted. My sympathy to his family. He may not have been a 'front man' but his importance and talent was never overlooked by Floyd fans. RIP
