I prefer the studio version. Slap on the headphones etc. Its worth watching the live DVD though. I was lucky enough to see IQ play the whole thing at the now defunct Astoria followed by an encore of The Last Human Gateway. Easily in my top 3 favourite gigs by any band.

well is there a way to put this I`m still unsure which is the better cd of the double concept album, is it the live or studio. I`ve been unable to state which is the better way or cd... don't get me wrong both are excellent cd`s, I`ve just been unable to choice which is confusing the little grey cells to choices can you if you must... I`ve been playing the albums TSH, DM and TRTB disc1 I`ve been having an absolutely an amazing pure listening of IQ, so I must`ve to say a very biggest thank you to the Richard/Roj and M27Barney for giving me the heads up which albums to listen to then I sent for the whole body of work. which I`ve enjoyed them everyday from then... which is great by me...

why oh why do the same old questions keep rearing its state of affairs. mind you it as had an affected us all about the question within the prog world. this question is that the bands albums all sound the same as the writing like GENESIS, neo-prog and IQ maybe its me but yes there are similar sounding music but that's so so easy to state. music press talking. just ask Marillion and the tag of GENESIS... I think IQ`s albums possible do sound the same but there a great prog band...

I actually did not become a fan until Dark Matter and then Frequency which now are my two favorite albums by them. I was familiar with the early ones through friends but always thought they sounded a bit too much like Genesis even though they were good.
I have listened to Bones on you tube and while I think it's a good album I still think the previous two are 'catchier' if that's the right word. Maybe more melodic is a better term. There are quite a few places on the new one that seems like they are redoing the two previous ones but with less melody and more 'darkness'.
I'll end up getting it in time but right now Matter and Frequency are the ones that do it for me.

probably my least favourite track on the album although the album is a masterpiece so there are no weak tracks. |
Yeah. I'm a HEADLONG guy or WIDOWS PEAK fan. Those 2 songs are right up their with some of their best work.
Love Esau's bass on both those tracks. It has a pulse. :) |
Widows Peak - a 'must have' for any IQ fan is the BBC session version that is on The Lost Attic I love Esau's fretless bass on The Magic Roundabout although I'm with you on Headlong as well. |
I find myself agreeing with you more and more Richard. I reciprocate your feelings on this.
In general, it's really important for any IQ fan to deeply explore and relish listening to THE WAKE.
I know there must be a very few amount of people who would disagree with me on this.
It's one of their flagships. :)

I'm absolutely loving "The Road of Bones". The first disc is pretty good but to me, the second disc is far and away the winner here. I absolutely love ever song on disc 2. |
You are far from being alone here, my my fellow progger. I cannot get enough of it.
It's so beautifully crafted with exceptional track flow. I love the whole damn thing, but KNUCKLEHEAD is my favourite although disc 1 as a whole I like a bit more.
Do you think the intro to 10,000,000 demons reminds you of Depeche mode? Does for me. ;)
Pretty neat. |
I love that song, my first thought was Dr. Who but I can hear the Depeche Mode, a'la "Clean" in it. It's my favorite song on the whole album, Neil Durant sounds so good on that song. |
Yeah!! That exactly how I felt. The intro and middle section of CLEAN (original mix) off violator.
You are spot on with my feelings in this. Cool.

Let's hope they play Constellations, my favourite track off TROB by a mile. It's a good album but a combo of tracks from the 2 discs would make a better album. |
Yeah, Constellations is my favorite right now as well, but I still need to give both disks a few more plays to really absorb it all. In any case, I like the whole thing quite a bit.

I too have been liking disc 2 more than disc 1 - but the epic is growing on me bit by bit......I love the return of the theme on the synth...EPIC.....but the fade out just as the guitar solo gets interesting...that's JUST NOT PROG !
